Hello all, I have been reading up on W/S and it seems like a good company. Id like to apply but I need some help with a question..
Ive read that yall do a lot of furniture unloads by hand, mostly just pushing to the edge of the trailer.
My question is, I have been given 50 lb lift restriction by my dr, will this exclude me from being hired by W/S?
Is there anyway I can get hired on and just do drop and hook loads, or terminal to terminal loads?
I have a little over 2 years driving experience.
Thank you, hopefully someone can give me an answer.

I don't work for WS, but it sounds to me like you need to be looking at some LTL companies. I imagine that it would be very difficult for any OTR company to give you all terminal to terminal drop&hook loads, even with a dedicated account.

You may have to look for an OTR company that does not require, or perhaps forbids, truck drivers to load or unload their own freight, or assist for that matter. If I am NOT mistaken, there are probably NOT that many of them around. What few there are around, more than likely, the turnover is probably next to nil, if NOT outright zero.
You may also want to stay from LTL, including courier services, which often requires the handling of packages weighing more than 50 lbs.
One option is to try to find work as a bus driver, either school buses, city transit buses, or OTR bus driving as Greyhound or Trailways. It is mostly all driving. Bus driving jobs are often difficult to come by. The drivers tend to stay in those jobs for many years at a time, some over 40 plus years.
Another option is to perhaps go into a different line of work altogether, where lifting, or any type of physical work, is NOT required, as white collar work: office work, or perhaps as a receptionist for a doctor or dentist.
Good luck to you.
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Apr 17, 2014
