    Werner Dedicated???

Werner offered me a position driving for them on a real small dedicated account practically in my back yard is where I will get my loads....Just wondering how much I am going to actually drive on this dedicated account or are they going to stick me other runs....The recruiter sounded so good like they always try to do and I bought it hook line and sinker, as I will be attending orientation in Allentown, PA April 12th. But hey, any company is better than the one I used to drive for. Please leave any input no matter how small, thanks drivers!

First of all, unless you get it in writing, NO dedicated route is garaunteed before orientation. Sorry, but recruiters will tell you whatever it takes to get you into orientation. So don't be surprised if when you get to orientation you hear the same from the guy running the class. That said, I got onto the General Mills dedicated account straight off my trainer's truck, and loved it. Up until all my frieght started rolling on road fleet trucks, that is. As far as how dedicated works, that depends on the account. General Mills gave me lots of miles before the crunch, and plenty of time to get from point A to point B. I've heard that Dollar General doesn't give alot of miles, but the drop and driver assist unload pay more than make up for it. The downsides are some incredibly hard backing manuveurs, and dealing with extremely unstable 1,000lbs+ "rolltainers" that get alot of drivers hurt. And by hurt, I mean broken bones and the like. There's a "business" furniture account, whose name I currently forget, that pays pretty well. Good miles, and driver assist unloading. I ran one of thier loads with Transport America, and driver assist meant I stood the boxes upright while the clamptruck got ahold of them to remove them from the trailer. Not what you would call overly difficult work. There are other accounts, of course. Your best bet would be to find drivers on the particular account, and see what exactly they get, and what they do. Good luck, and no, Allentown is not representative of Werner Terminals. It's actually the crappiest terminal in the company. So don't base your opinion of the company on that terminal. I personally prefer Springfield, OH. Or Omaha, of course.

The factory that I will be pulling the dedicated runs for is 0.3miles from my house. I have a new son that was born 2 weeks ago so werner said on this account I will be by the house at least every other night????hopefully for my 10 hr. I only have 1.5yrs experiance with my cdl a, I had a cdl B for 9 yrs previous. I have been off the road for a month researching companies besides Swift!!! And I dont really wanna get tied into a lease purchase that all these companies are jamming down my throat when I call to inquire if they are hiring in my are.. Please any Werner drivers on the owl wire account give me a shout! Thanks drivers!
