What are some ideas to cheat the idling policy like rig up the clutch or gas pedal so the truck do shut off any ideas?

I used to drive a Pete that would shut off after 5 minutes but the CEL would blink right before it shut off... If I waited for it to stop blinking then hit the clutch and set the cruise right away it would keep it from shutting off

That's the way most of the systems work. All it does is to make the driver watch that stupid light. If you go do something else and the truck shuts off, you have to restart and watch for the light again. Idle timers have no place on a OTR truck. I can understand having it on a city truck.

Whomever came up with that stupid idea needs a nut kick.

There used to be tricks to keeping the truck idling, like wait for blinking yellow light then tap the clutch, or bumping up the rpm / cruise control. They are getting more strict now and making it impossible to keep them on.

The company, and politicians, that make anti idle, get to go homes that are heated or air conned, while the driver must freeze in the winter or sweat in the summer while trying to get sleep. Very unsafe but with a market flooded with people looking for jobs, there is no reason for them to treat you with any respect. Dogs get better treatment.

Good points about idling. It truly is a safety issue. I don't know why people don't get that. A driver NEEDS SLEEP. Rolling the windows down, not an option. The noise makes it like sleeping in an airport runway with the windows down, not to mention the bugs. At seventy, with the windows up, it's intolerable to sleep, at sixty it's just barely tolerable, at fifty, too cold. Also, don't forget keeping the battery charged if you want to run accessories for any length of time.

The truck is OUR HOME while on the road. HOW DARE they tell us what temperature we should be able to tolerate to get a good nights sleep.

This industry has an obsession with safety, but the glaringly obvious seems to allude them.

Think about maintenance. When something is declared a SAFETY ISSUE, like companies that pay the price in CSA scores for unsafe vehicles, maintenance becomes a NECESSARY EXPENSE. Companies do not like to spend money, which makes sense from a business perspective. But, I guarantee that if you made driver rest and cab temperature a SAFETY ISSUE, the fuel spent on idling would become a NECESSARY EXPENSE.

You can take your fifth wheel puller and jam it between clutch and steering wheel. But I asked my company to turn it off and they did. Idling is bs, if I don't get the comfort that I need, I leave. Finding a company for rookies like me that willing to work for ok pay, isn't hard.
