Warner good or bad?

Just happens a lot of people don't have your same situation I have 2 friends that worked/works for Werner 1 Already quit because he was hardly clearing 300 a week and another friend with them right now who is also about to quit, because he's not making any money and he sits waiting on loads for hours! Everything I've heard about this company has been awful, when the recruiter came to my school back in October I caught her in so many lies it was ridiculous, what she didn't know is that I had gotten "pre hired" and I called and already got enough info from the recruiter on the telephone and what the woman on the phone said and the woman in our class room said were 2 completely different things!

And when I asked her why I was told different info from the recruiter I had called she got so rude and gave me such attitude. It was actually pretty funny. Anyways, I just got up and went outside and smoked a cig so my head didn't get more crap jammed in. If that was my experience with Werner... And I didn't even work for them was like, I can't imagine what it would be like to work there.
like I said in the beginning, I'm sure everyone has a different situation(somewhat) with Werner.
but there are ALOT better company's to start off with in my opinion. And I'm not just talking crap, I talk to someone that still works there and I can't believe all the problems he has on a daily basis.

 

look ok I just left there and been there for 3 years ran like my pants were on fire, second there is no way you have been there for 6 months and making what you say you are making. I know what most drivers make especially starting out. If you doing dollar general then you might make that but your working your butt off. I did, company, oo, and lpo, I also trained. Post the proof, as I have the proof and there are drivers there that have been with Werner for 5 or more years and not even making .35 CPM. Yet I know a guy that makes .35 CPM dh and loaded and he is the only person I know if with 3 years experience that makes anything close to what you spewing.

Like I stated it's not bad but expect to do allot of free work and put in allot of free time.
and the cheap wages.

 

The account I am on and got on right off the trainers truck is the intermodal account.. the cpm is .34cpm and then on top of that you get safety pay, stop pay, on time pay...

You should of been able to figure out by now that in trucking where you live makes a big difference.. so, hes a roomie living in tne rignt place can get on a good account that pays good.. and while yeah a driver get small pay increases in time for experience.. trucking, especially with the mega carriers isnt about seniority... so a driver who has been there for a couple months can make as much or more than a driver who has been tnere for a couple of years.. especially if the new driver is on a good dedicated account while other is OTR... with the mega carriers OTR is not where the money is at... nor are the miles.. it doesnt take a genious to figure it out.. on a dedicated there are plenty of loads and only a limited number of drivers on the account.. so there is always a load waiting for me... not so with OTR where there are hundreds of drivers... the loads will first go to the trainers, those leasing or purchasing a truck, then the teams, then the solo OTR driver...

So instead of jumping from one company to the next looking for the elusive great OTR gig.. new drivers need to realize that it is better to figure out how to make the most you can at whatever mega carrier you are getti g your experience with.. then if after a year it is really bad.. get on with a better company... but if you can stick it out for 3 years you will have much better opportunities...

I just saw an add for a company that requires 3 years experience and has a $3000 sign on bonus.. $5000 if y ou only worked for 2 companies in the past 5 years...

So apparently this job hop your way to success may not be the smartest route...

 

First, I don't know much about intermodal, and let's face it most on here are looking at otr, or regional type of work, some get talked into dollar general but most are not going to go from training into intermodal, intermodal is a different kind of beast, and will bite one quicker than one can blink.

Second, job hopping is job hopping, and will and are there companies that have stringent hiring policies yes. But if you look at there turn over rates they are low, and therefore the higher wages can be supported.

i had 10 years of experience going into Werner and was lied to from get go. I was told I would be hired in at .32cpm ok not good, not bad, then came all the bad crap nobody mentions such as the -.03 CPM that is your supposedly safety bonus, that you get back at the end of each month, well guess what I have had no accidents, no tickets, my first student which was on truck still has no accidents or tickets but yet no safety bonus given back. And a bonus is something that is suppose to be above and beyond what one would make.

then about 1 1/2 months into Werner my check seemed funny, so I had it scanned to me and guess what I found I found that Werner took another .03 CPM from me and now I was making .26 CPM for loaded and .07 CPM on dh. Talk about being peeved, I called talk to payroll they told me to talk to recruiter. I talked to the recruiter and he stated I didn't have enough experience? Excuse me, over 1m miles under my belt and been with my last company for almost 3 years really?

so all I have to really say is you will find those that don't mind making cheap wages, if one really wants to get the real skinny on anything goto a truckstop and ask the drivers that are their especially the ones who are driving for the company you are looking into. Yes, there is allot of bull that comes on here from those not in the know, or cannot give a bias answer. Yep I got the big blue screwing but I can at least share the good and bad and not just the bad. Call it a learning experience. Would I ever go back nope, would I recommend well depends on who, and circumstances one is looking at.

 

i am not making big money, but bringing home about $450-$500 a week right now after taxes ($700-$750 before taxes) just ran 2400 miles last week. plus $200 in breakdown pay added on.

Werners base rate is $.22 a mile for new drivers. if you drive all week without tearing anything up, you get an extra $.04 a mile. grand total of $.26 a mile.

if you are sitting and waiting...you need to be asking for shags, asking if you can do recoveries, asking to deadhead somewhere. longest i have sat anywhere waiting is about 90 minutes. i welcome a little downtime to get my truck cleaned up, receipts filed away, laundry folded, trash taken out, etc.

if you still find yourself waiting.. then ask to be assigned to a new dispatcher. plenty of freight to be ran.

Werner pays my bills, but short stay planned. just long enough to get my experience then I am on to greener pastures where the $$$ flows.

werner is a starting point. not a lifelong career.

 

That is ridiculous to even offer a driver those wages. When I started driving 5 years ago I made more then that. For that money id go flip burgers and be home every night.

 

13 years ago I started out at .30 CPM

 

not disagreeing with you on the wages, but its still better than flipping burgers and putting up with snot nosed little turds all day long.

im just putting in my 6 months to get experience and then going elsewhere.

I did gross $865 this week and took home $630. I redacted the trip info for the maintenance pay for privacy reasons, but this is a partial screenshot of my pay stub.


had 2163 miles this week too btw. would have been better if not for the breakdowns, but things happen.

 

I would have to agree with you on the dedicated. I just recently switched from a regional acct to a dedicated 1 and my pay literally doubled

 

i will have 3200 miles come tuesday morning for a week. another decent paycheck coming next friday. im sitting at 1659 miles as of tonights delivery, with a 1500 mile load starting tomorrow.
