I got some FANTASTIC driving experience yesterday in Wyoming. Blizzard like conditions, snow, ice, 50 mph winds, snow/ice covered roads. My trainer offered to pull over and he would drive, but I shook my head no and told him that if I did that...then what would I learn? I won't know what to do when it snows and I'm out on my own. He was shocked and told me most of his male students pull over and have him drive. I told him his truck now has a new standard for students lol. :biggrin_2559:

It was a bit nerve wracking driving 67,000 lbs through that, but I did good, made it, and had no close calls, just took my time! Stopped several times to clear off the ice from the wipers and windshield but it wasn't too bad at all!

well the difference is my trainer respects me and I respect him, so I have no reason to talk to him this way.

Unfortunately the same can not be said about some of you posting in my experience thread. Seems you and 2 other members in this thread have no manners or respect for others. No wonder you got screwed by Werner, you should have learned what your place is and kept your hole shut. You got what you deserved as far as I'm concerned and I hope you get some more from your next trucking job...or wait, you're getting out of the industry all together, because it's just nothing more than a big scam/ripoff. Now go cry about Werner somewhere else, because your ######## ain't welcome in here.

in case anyone missed it, misunderstood my intention....I am NOT saying Werner is EXCELLENT, PERFECT or the GREATEST COMPANY on the block to work for.

I am just sharing my experience as it happens. Ok? This is not a PRO-WERNER thread. It's not an ANTI-WERNER thread. It's an "EXPERIENCE IN PROGRESS THREAD".

So I will ask, if you got something negative to say, keep it to yourself, or go make a thread in Bad Companies, or Trucker Rants but LEAVE IT OUT of my thread.

It's great you got to drive through those conditions, but you stated that you had to stop several times to clear the ice from windshield correct? Just a tip to try for next time clear everything off the dash put defrost on high it will get warm but rolling down the windows a bit will balance out heat. Give that a try next time most times it works and prevents you from having to pull over on icy roads and put yourself and or truck in harms way, as some drivers over drive their trucks.

hopefully you made it into a truckstop or rest area to do this would be safer yet. Allot of times stopping like that on side of road can cause you problems too such as not being able to get traction to get moving again.

Just something to think about next time

we stopped twice. truck stops were all full cause I-80 was shut down at one point on the west side of Laramie due to a couple accidents. we got off a ramp, and then I saw the guy in my sideview mirror pull up in a truck and raising the blocking arm back up, so we got back on the on-ramp, and I pulled over and cleared the wipers, and then kept going. dash was clear and free of items. Just a lot of snow and moisture icing up really quick and accumulating on the wipers.

Can't wait to get my own truck, because I am putting a set of Bosch Icon wipers on and buying a couple cans of de-icer spray, as well as Rain-X in the spring/summer/fall.

Sometimes keeping the defroster off keeps the wipers from freezing up. If its a dry snow it blows right past the windshield. The big wet flakes not so much.

I was hitting those big wet flakes outside of Buffalo the other day. Thank goodness it was still above freezing or my wipers would have been rendered useless, lol.

yup, I was getting big ole flakes and it was about 26º F, 35-50mph winds. defrost was virtually useless, even with it running full blast
