I am hoping to get some information from any current or recent (preferably the last 12 months) Werner TEAM drivers. I am getting out of the Army in July, and my wife and I are planning to go to Southwest Driver Training in Phoenix to get our CDLs. We are doing the research to find a company to start out with that works for us, and Werner is one that we are looking at. Currently we are only looking at companies with terminals in Phoenix that allow pets (the wife refuses to leave her cat behind....whatever makes mama happy). We are only looking at companies with Phoenix terminals because I will be continuing my military service in the reserves and having a terminal where we can park the truck during my drill weekends will make life a bit easier. With the exception of my drill weekends, we intend to spend all of our time on the road and bank as much cash as we can. So, now that you know were we are coming from, here are a couple of questions.
1. Once we finish training and get our own truck, what is the starting pay for teams? We have heard that Team Werner pays better than working as a regular team, but the info was dated so we are looking for some clarification.
2. We want to RUN! Miles, miles and more miles. We heard that Team Werner runs a lot of just in time loads and they run the dog piss out of you. Any truth in that? I have driven as a team driver before (20 years ago) so I am prepared for the rigours of team driving.
3. As with many companies, we have heard that teams get newer equipment at Werner as well. Is that true? How old is newer?
Well, that is it for now, I'm sure we will have more questions later. Thanks for any info you can provide!

Also look at Watkins & Shepard; they have a terminal in Phoenix.
latitude34az Thanks this. -
Chinatown, they are on our list, but as I understand it, there terminal is little more that a drop yard and there is no place to park our car while we are on the road. If we can't get what we are looking for with a company that has a secure parking area for our car, then Watkins Shepard will be at the top of our list.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
System Transport runs teams & hires new CDL grads, but I don't know anything about their Phoenix terminal.
Tyson Foods runs teams and hires new CDL grads.latitude34az Thanks this. -
Thanks for the suggestions Chinatown, but Tyson doesn't hire in AZ and System Trans doesn't allow pets.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Check out knight, Schneider, I would go with one of them unless you wanna work for low wages even swift would be better

Lowa, Knight is definitely on the list, but we haven't been able to get any good info regarding teams running for Knight. As for Schneider and Swift, both are NO PETS! A deal breaker for the wife, she has to take her cat.

Don't know if they hire that far west, but CTL Transportation runs teams and has pet policy. Maybe National Carriers also.
