So.....I take out a $5k loan for truck driving school...I graduate, get a pre hire from Werner, got my CDL. Head to orientation, at this point, I've filled out two applications. The recruiter calls while I'm waiting for a trainer with a question about a former employer. Said they gave me a bad reference. I explained what happened, she said "cool, no big deal, just have to fill out an explaination of what happened". I get my trainer and hit the road. That was 3.5 weeks ago. Got to the terminal last night to drop a trailer and get our next load. We're told to wait, have to conference call with Omaha at 8am. I asked why, was told " safety meeting". Trainer said no big deal. Sit down this morning and the guy asks about the same company from 3 years ago...not even a driving job. Asks AGAIN what happened, I told him, he leaves and comes back and says "unfortunately Weiner has to revoke our offer for employment". I was like, really? Wtf.

My question now is, where do I go now? Do I put that I worked for Weiner for 3 weeks on an app? I live in okc and was gonna run the DG account out of Ardmore.

I guess Werner decided to thoroughly investigate the previous employers bad reference and chooses to believe their account of things. There are a boat load of other starter companies. Be honest.

    Ack that sucks.

Really its a blessing in disguise.

I would just say I attended their orientation and didn't agree to terms.

Paul's valley has a buncha dedicated runs through usx and a few other companies. Go sniff.

    Kinda close.

Try averitt...they run dollar general up there too as well as family dollar in Duncan OK...they do take students as well...they're light years ahead of Werner as far as pay and treatment of drivers.

This is something that trips up a lot of unprepared new drivers... as suggested several times on several threads.. before you even apply and especially before you leave for orientation make sure you know exactly what each past employer will say...

I contacted all my past employers to verify that what I was putting on my application was what would be verified... employment dates, reason left, eligible for rehire and all....

This is especially important if you were terminated or left on bad terms or left witnout notice...

Obviously what you are saying happened and what your past employer is saying isnt matching up...

I would find out what the deal is... find out what the past employer is saying...

So, having been married to an HR Director of a large corporation, past employers can't besmirch you or tell tales of how bad they think you were. Basically, when asked, "would you ever hire candidate X again?" They can either say yes or no. Period.

    Thanks drvrtech77...I check them out.

So BrenYoda883, should I just ommitt this employer in future applications? There is no "coming to an agreement" with my old boss. He's pissed because I stood up to him...but I probably stood up a little much, and could've cursed less...and he says he fired me for falsifying work orders. He fired me for getting in his face, he was chewing me out over the work orders and threatening to dock my pay. It was pest control and they wanted us to service every house in 45 minutes at least. It doesn't take a genius to know that if a 2000sf house takes 30 min, a 1000sf fouse won't take that much. My trainer said to do a good service and just make sure to put on the work order you were there at least 45 min.

Having been in a position in the past to "hire and fire", this was also what I had been told by our attorney; we could confirm that a former employee had worked there, but should only respond "yes or no" as to whether we would consider that person for future employment and should decline any further discussion about the person's employment. However, as I understand your rights as a former employee, you are entitled to actually see what your former employer said about your time there. It is possible that you may have a case against your former company. It might at least be worth a call to an attorney who specializes in labor law.
