I currently drive for werner in the TCU Division.

Your experience will be what you make of it, nothing more, nothing less. I see all these posts about how terrible the company is, not getting paid, etc, etc.

I'm currently on my second truck (First one was a POS issued from Indy terminal, don't go there for ANYTHING) It has had problems, I have never had an issue getting things fixed either through my FM or Road Breakdown (Even though breakdown is by far sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow). Mileage wise I vary between 2400-3400 a week solo, lower miles usually are a result of running around looking for MTs or getting trailers washed out that other drivers haven't, or getting trailers fixed other drivers have dropped knowing they didn't run.

One thing about TCU, You will see the same places alot, you will have to run around looking for MT trlrs (as long as dispatch sends you somewhere to look for a trailer, and you ask, you will get paid for the xtra miles in some form or another)

There are a few shipper/recievers that are a pain in the ###, but all in all I really like running the TCU fleet, and I love my FM. If I ever have a problem all I have to do is bring it up, and it usually gets fixed.

As far as pay goes, we make 2c less Per mile than 48, but we get a 2c Dispatched miles bonus at the end of each month, it all comes to a wash. (We still are eligible for the fuel mileage bonus that 48 states gets unlike some of the divisions)

I know this isn't the usual fire and brimstone story you hear about werner, but any job is what you make of it, and it will suck at times.

    dbcad7 Thanks this.

    Thanks for the reply !

I don't know if it's the recent problems with the economy or not, but my choices seem to be few.. (a couple) after applying to 10 companies.. I still have not heard a word from 4 of them, so will be making some calls next week.. although based on the rejections, it seems I am living in a "dead zone" or something (out of hiring area).

I am not totally put off by what I have read here about Werner.. In fact I have a cousin who started with them about 5 weeks ago (not TCU).. If things remain as they are, I will in fact probably go with them based upon getting TCU division, and if they guarantee me at least the last 2 weeks of training working in that division before they throw me out on my own.

The only thing that has made me delay a bit, and look a little harder before I make the plunge.. is the training pay... in my estimation, I will actually make like $20 a week less take-home than I am making on unenjoyment. for the first half, and then bump up to being to about equal to it. Their training pay is about $75 to $100 a week less than some of the companies that would hire me if I was in their hiring area. It's not a major deal, I could survive, but it gives me pause.

If you end up going with Werner let me know, I train on TCU, and you can request a trainer, currently I won't have an opening for a student until mid december.

As far as the TCU portion of it is actually concerned I would try to either get on the General TCU fleet (for a trainer) or find one in either a Dedicated Wal-Mart, ConAgra or Kraft

To add to that there's also a 4 hour test on their CBT, but since I came in with reefer exp. it took me all of 45min to do it. But if you haven't messed with a reefer take your time.
