see, i get what you are saying here, but in all honesty, do you really believe they don't hire at least 1000 per month? One of the safety personnel at the terminal has told me, on more than one occasion, that Werner DOES have higher than 100% turnover (he uses this number to compare to Schneider, Swift, etc as being way higher). If they have 12000 trucks, and 100% turn over, that means they hire and release 1000 drivers per month!
you said yourself that there was 10 people in your orientation class. think of all the terminals they have, if all those places hire 10 people per day, how fast do you think it would take to run into the next 1000?
needless to say, i didn't write this up because they gave me a crap truck. i know how business works, and they need to make most efficient use of the tools they have paid for. i am only trying to prevent someone from making the same mistake i made, in calling Werner back and asking when i could start. i don't hate my job, and i don't hate Werner, but i do think that some of the stuff they do is shady at best, and i just want to prevent someone else from falling into that kind of trap.
I went to a third party school. I signed on with Werner cause they called me back first and offered 38cpm.
For those thinking of driving for Werner, DON'T.

Did you go to Trainco Truck driving school?

The thing all new drivers need to know and remember is that the recruiters will tell you anything to get you in the seat. The specialize in giving rookies a lot of sunshine. They also usually quote averages when talking about miles, and that average is calculated on every driver on their payroll.
Also, the mileage pay a lot of the companies list on their sites includes potential bonus pay for such things as safety bonus, fuel mileage bonus, etc. -

Today i found out that the graduating orientation class in Indianapolis was 47 drivers. in Dallas on Oct 31st, they had 35 graduates, and on Sept 28, in Indy, they had 55 graduates!
Werner is not slowing down on hiring for some reason, despite shutting down numerous trucks, they seem to be hiring faster than ever... if you are thinking about coming to work for the big blue screw, think again. my previous student spent 19 days extra on my truck after completing the required 275 hours. he was paid the normal ~$350 student paycheck. no pay increases are allowed after 275 anymore, either. even though my student was told that at orientation, when he called about it, they told him they stopped doing that the week prior. -

What you need to look at is not the new hires coming in to orientation, it's the promotional quota for each terminal. Indy is allowed 3-9 New qualified drivers per day. It varies on terminal, and its a far cry from the amount that gets pumped through orientation.
I've seen students quit because they didn't want to do the 4 hours worth of CBTs at the end of there training. -
4 hours of computer training?? thats nothing i sit infront of my computer at least 4 hours a day. wow there must be some lazy people or people who dont liek technology that go to werner.

Exactly folks, again numbers can be twisted to suit anyones needs, facts can be left out to make it look worse.
50 new students an orientation seems liek they are super fast hiring, but I'd wager good money that Werner isn't wasting the time and resources to push 50 students through because they only need 3 . They know that of the new students 80% will not make it thru the training. Those that do many will quit at the slightest issue.
Again, Werner has run its company free of debt for a long time, they know what they are doing, and there are PLENTY of happy drivers to go along with the ones that are not. Most simply don't feel the need to run to the forums.
Generally the human mind is quiet when contented, and loud when it is unhappy. Which really skews the outsiders view, because unhappy drivers/students/etc will ##### the loudest while happy drivers will generally not feel a need to seek out and praise. Think about it? Whens the last time you had really good service? Did you fill out a compliment card or tell the manager how happy you were?
Now the last time you had really bad service I bet you did.Chicken Wing and dinger Thank this. -
Thank you for info on Werner. They were on my list to seek a staring job. I have not yet gone to school for the CDL. Can you recommend a good company that will hire a newb?
