What is Werner's idle policy???

    Unless the temp gets dowm to near zero temps,I have the sleeping gear to handle it.
    But the heat is what concerns me. How does one stay cool enough to sleep during a hot sunny day with temps in the 90s-100s?

    Does Werner have APU's, or optimized idle?
    Or will I be forced to try to sleep inside a cab of a truck parked on a paved parking lot in 100 degree sunny temps?


    If the outside temps are near 100, I can only imagine how hot it would be inside a truck cab...:biggrin_25512:

    From what I've read, all the new trucks have them but that is still a small percentage of the entire fleet.

    I think I read they have to stay under 30% idle time. I'm sure someone who knows for sure will come along and correct me.

    When you say 30% idle time, what is the 30% taked from?
    Is that 30% of a 24 hour day which would be over 7 hours?

    Or is it 30% of the time you are not driving,which could be less than 4 hours per 24 hour day?

    Total time. Average 7 hours. Since you shut down for 10 a day, I think you still have to make some sacrifices during the temperate months to make it work out over the long haul.

    My break is 10 hours. I eat in the truck.

    What about the time that is spent at docks. This is going to increase the amounts as well.

    Yep, no doubt 30% isn't quite as easy as it sounds at first glance.

    They really do not care about the driver. It is just not this company. Consider most of the larger carriers and their wonderful policies.

    If I can idle it for 7 straight hours while I am sleeping, I should be fine.

    Other times,such as being stopped at a dock, I will just suck it up and deal with it....

    Big problem will be if I am stuck waitng on a load for 2-3 straight days with nowhere to go. Only having 7 hours per day to climatize my home will be tough..

    When I become the head man in charge, I will implement a roll-over idle plan.
    Any idle time not used today can be used the next day...

    I was at a dock Friday morning for over two hours. The temperature was -26. You can imagine the temperature in the truck.

    Well for every night you don't idle, you bank another 7 hours. So if you can cope from say April to June and then again from Sept to Nov then you'd probably be ok. That's IF they will do an annual review and not weekly or some garbage.
