Hey,I was suppose to go to orientation in Indy on 03-02-09,my recruiter called me on 02-28-09 and told me I was being put on a wait list due to a lack of available trainers.Today is 05-22-09 and I'm still waiting!!!I have called my recruiter every week and he tells me I'm on the list and not to worry.Can/should I believe him or reapply online?Has anyone else experienced this runaround?I'm licensed for everything except a bus.I have no criminal record or drug offenses,I've never been fired from a job.I'm a good girl and still don't get anywhere.I live in Michigan and keep getting denied from every company I have applied to,but no company wants to hire out of MI.due to the crap with the big 3 and I can't afford to move(I have already lost my house and had to move back in with my parents,it's sooo depressing and not the way I wanted my life to be at this time).I lost my other job back in Jan.haven't worked since then, there is nothing here.I have no problem staying OTR for 2-3 months at a time(I'm single with NO kids) if my area of residence is a problem and I have told this to all the companies I have applied to.I can't even get a job at a gas station!!I'm getting tired of pleading and running out of hope.

Ask them if living in Michigan is a problem. I have not been there in over a year with Werner. Bad thing for you, recruiters do not know much, they are just told what to say, most of it is B.S. and not the truth. Freight is slow and there is not enough to keep the full time drivers going, but it has been better over the last month. Friday a friend that works in Omaha told me they were over booked with loads for last weekend, could be a good sign or just the holiday rush. Trust me, there are plenty of trainers. Iam a trainer and have been out for a week without a student assigned to me, but i did need a break. Just hang in there, they might just be holding student hires for a while, but i think Michigan could be a issue.

Chances are Werner is losing trainers because they just cut trainer miles by $0.03. I know a couple that have told Omaha they aren't going to train anymore becuase with the pay cut, they can make just about as much going solo. Omaha doesn't seem to be too happy about this and is telling them they "have" to pick up students........

thanks but I applied to schneider about 2 weeks ago and then called them a few days later and was told that they are requiring at least 6 months in a tractor/trailer.I only have 2 months in T/T.My 5 months experience in a straight truck does not help me a bit for trying to get a job in a T/T.Where are u from?I have my tank, hazmat, and doubles/triple ensorsements or "XT" for short but still can not get anything(not even postcards).

My company runs 48 states and Canada and we don't hire anymore out of Michigan, even though we have Michigan drivers and freight that runs into, through, and out of Michigan. I'd say Michigan probably has a big deal to do with it. That's why I got out of that state almost 8 years ago. I saw the writing on the wall. Now is not a very good time to try to break into truck driving. Things like this are going to be the norm for a while. There are too many experienced drivers out of work right now (about 100,000 CDL holders here in Ohio).
Add to that the number of people who get laid off from whatever other job or career they had and they think, or get led to believe, "I'll just go to truck driving school and become a truck driver". That adds to the number of drivers trying to compete for a job. Insurance companies are dictating who companies can hire. And if your insuring a truck for $1million + who would you want driving it? It sucks for people in your position, newlife. Take into consideration I have 12 years experience and it took me almost 2 months to find a job. -
That being said, Trainer pay is also being supplemented based on your trainer safety score.
The trainer safety score is a combination of Several Factors :
Trainer's Accidents / Violations
Idle / Over Speed / Over RPM Percentage
Student Accidents / Violations While on your truck
Student Accidents / Violations for there first 90 days of solo driving
For example, My pay is being cut .03 cpm, however due to my trainer safety score of 1.36 (Scale of 1-10, 1 being the best 10 being the worst) my pay is then supplemented .049CPM, Washing out to a .019 CPM RAISE. Basically if you're at least half way doing your job as a trainer and not using your students as a steering wheel holder, this works out to benefit you more than hurt you. -

I called the student assignment department today and they told me there is not very many students company wide as for now, plan on haveing a little break from training, and this is the same guy i have talked to for last couple of years. The way i see it, they quit hireing so many people to feed the ones they have. So much for Goverment funding. No students for a while is kinda nice, i was getting burned out, last student i droped off last week, we were doing 5000 miles plus a week. But he was the first one that could drive i have had in over 8 months. Been out for 6 days now as a solo and have had 3800 miles, so its been a nice break and still makeing great money, but never worry about how many miles i get with a student, miles are there with a student, most of the time i average about 4200 with a student so i can stay up with them most, if not all the time they are driveing.
