Western Express Orientation

Hey I'm going to orientation on Tuesday the 21 I would like to know information bout the weekly pay and the good things and bad things bout W/E I'm a lil nervous im new in the trucking world and I would like some advice from you guys thank you very much!!

 

where at? Nazareth, Nashville,Fontana. I actually am doing the orientation in Nazareth. Mon & Tues Wed & Thurs. if you are coming Tues it will be for Wed class. make sure you bring your cdl ss card long and short form physical a voided check for direct deposit 10 year work history with dates phone #'s addresses driving school diploma. as far as pay goes you will need to ask your recruiter.

You live pretty close to me so I will ask you a few questions (anyone else feel free to answer as well), I live in Nashville which of course is the company's HQ. Where will I be running once I am hired on here? Also, will running out of Nashville allow me to get home fairly regularly? Lastly do Flat bed truckers get paid noticeably more than Van truckers?

 

Just got a call from these guys today. They wanted to give me a bus ticket to go to Nashville to train....but my next two weeks are booked, going out of town. Schneider, Swift, and now Western Express all want to hire me, but Western Express right off the bat wanted me to leave and train right away. As for location, they do have a terminal out in Fontana, Ca, about 60 miles from me. What I gathered from this thread so far:

Training Site: Nashville
Training Time: Van 2 days, Flatbed 4
Pay: $375 (training fee $100)
Average time out/in: OTR 3 weeks 2 days off.

My recruiters name is Donna Craft, very nice lady, heard in my voice that I was pretty down because job searching and being unemployed sucks. She answered all my questions.

 

Beware you'll never get paid what ur actually suppose.....Word of wisdom grasshopper!!!

When you get more experience, there are companys that treat drivers better. That being said, Western is for newbies and folks with a dinged up MVR. Nothing wrong with that. If it wasn't for a company like Western, there would be a lot of drivers that would find it hard to get experience or get an MVR cleaned up (over time ).
They want to act like they are doing you a favor to let you go home after being out for 3 weeks. When it comes to pay, beware. You will be told that you will make "X" amount per mile. The true amount you will be paid "will" be lower, and here is how it works: Just a number I will pull out of the air, .29 permile.
You will actually get paid .27 permile. "IF" you were to make your fuel bonus, it would add another .05 permile, and "IF" your were to make your safety bonus, it would add another .05 permile.
.27 + .05 + .05 = .29

See what I mean?

I did work for Western when I first started Flatbedding, so the information I pass along is from experience. I knew what type of company they were before I started. I simply made the best of it. They used me for cheap labor, and I used them for experience.
When you are hired, the part about the amout of pay you will be receive is not usually broken down in to what it will take you to actually make the "said" amount. Just be prepared and not suprised.
Get training and exprience with them, and them you can go on to a premire trucking company. A company that will take better care of thier drivers. Their are those type of companys out there, I work for one now.
If I am out 3 weeks, it is because I "want" to be out 3 weeks, not because it is company policy to be out 3 weeks and then get a "whole" 2 days at home, (Bu####it). I am usually home most weekends, but I had to work to get to this point with a good company.
