I drove for Smithway Motor Express (SMX) when Western Express bought them out. Western screwed everything up. SMX was a great company, with decent pay and miles, and Western came along and crapped all over us.

As SMX flatbed driver I was making .37 cpm (yes .37 cpm was decent at that time)---the Western flatbed drivers were making .32 cpm---so guess who got the loads regardless of who was empty first? Yep....the Western trucks because they could move the load for .05 cpm cheaper.

    Western Express can KMA!!!

I have a slightly different view on the subject

Lets for a second go along with the notion that EVERYTHING negative about Western Express is true................................................Given that were in the age of the internet- Isn't it safe to say that we all have been forewarned?

I mean, like previously stated- if you are in a position (for ANY number of reasons) where your only options are work for this outfit, or stay unemployed, and you choose to work, I think once a person has the opportunity to leave and go to a "less negative" company - (more pay, better benefits, etc, etc) Western pales in comparison, and then that person "vents" about how bad Western is/was..............Here's my question:

Is there even the SLIGHTEST possibility that a persons "happiness" at the new company might influence just how "bad" Western is in the description of the place? i'm not saying ANYONE is lying, im just asking when you're so "happy" to be out that heel hole - that could it might be easy to "overstate" how bad that place is that GOT YOU THE CHANCE TO GET TO GREENER PASTURES? (the company along with a drivers good driving of course)

I'll say this- because of this place (TTR)- I have ZERO reason to complain about anything that goes on there (or any other company that's mentioned in depth on this board) - because I was ALREADY FOREWARNED

Former Western Driver here.... If I had a gripe, the first thing I would do is go to the top. Alex Trent terminal manager told me " we'll see what I can do" . Not acceptable. What would happen if I said to my dispatcher " Ill see what I can do". Give me an assignment. Consider it done. That is what I expect from my superiors in return. Your questions and concerns go unaddressed. It's always passing the buck. You need to call payroll, you need to call safety, you need to call breakdown. Nobody has an answer cuz none of them know it. Calls go like this.... Rrrrrring .... Your waiting time is approximately less than one minute. 17 minutes later your still on hold. If your bleeding you have done bled out and your dead.

Try again, I have 30 years experience in the trucking industry. My former company folded. Needed a job quickly. Fell for the Western Express sales pitch. That was the worst 3 months I have ever experienced in this business. Lies, low or no pay, young management with no experience and no people skills, constant dispatches with improper equipment, embarrassing interactions with their own customers, constant improper delivery addresses to the tune of 250 miles off route. No pay for that. Inexperienced drivers at every turn looking for me to do their work. Back a truck in, properly secure a load, teach em how to use Qualcomm. Holds me up and no trainers pay. Company just plain BLOWS
