Good day to everyone, hope everyone is safe out there. Well i was wondering if there are any current drivers out there that can give me any information on western express. ive worked for CR ENGLAND and got my licence with them. My time with CR ENGLAND {one year total} has been the best no complaints great dm great miles my only problem was the .25cpm as a solo driver. i recently quit with them and decided to give western express. Im pretty muc just trying to get as much info about them as possible... how is the pay? how are the DM? The equipment? im not to worried about home time i like being on the road. so these are just some of the questions i have. also orientation what is it like. im going for 2 days orientation on Aug. 4th. since i have expirience. so i just want some more info i know they pay at a sliding pay scale so i was just wondering on that. what kind of runs do one typically get with them what kind of paychecks have any recent solo van drivers recieved? if anyone can help out please itll be greatly appreciated. i heard a bunch of bad stuff about them but also good but i really dont like to listen to it because i know everyone expirience is different, and you get what you put into it. so if anyone can help thanks. Also anyone has any idea the type of truck dry van drivers typically get?

    surfernabox Thanks this.

I can't speak of CRE as I've never worked for them, however, I can say with firsthand experience, I will never work for WE again! HORRIBLE company to work for. If you do go to work or them, just plan now to run illegal and stay in the NE even when you're due home. Oh, you will get PLENTY of NYC experience, too!

Actually i still dont know how WE works but with England i was doing very good. great miles luckily my truck wasnt governed, good dm had always another load 2 days before my current load was due i was a trainer. reason i left is because i want my wife to join me but CRE wouldnt let me they kept push me to continue training (team) so i couldnt bring my wife. reason being the lease on our condo expired so she is back at her mothers house and i want to save to buy a home so im not to worried about home time having her on the truck with me i quit England last week and am schedule to be a solo driver and come in for 2 day orientation Aug 4 with WE. i have everything i need fridge,tv game system, cable tv, etc.. so pretty much im set ill run as much as they want me to not to worried about home time.

Stay away from western express. Their home time is horrible and they believe you have to "earn"it. Just look it up on the western express forum. There are a WHOLE bunch of companies you can run with. Do not choose convict express

    Western Express,
This is just my experience, you know the saying opinions are like ########, everybody has one.
You will hear good and bad about every trucking company out there.

Stay away if you can. I was with Western until the 28th of July.
Let me tell you about a little bit of my experience with them.
I was deadheading on a Saturday morning from Conneautt Ohio to to Middletown to load at Precision strip.
Well my truck broke down on the side of the interstate at 7:00 a.m..
The tow truck finally arrived at 4:30 p.m.. They towed me back to Fairborn Ohio.
Needless to say Stoops isn't a 24 hour facility. So I had to call breakdown to rent me a hotel room.
1st off breakdown wouldn't rent a room until the dealership forwarded a cost estimate for the work.
1st night the room was on my credit card.
The next morning (Sunday) I returned to Stoops Freightliner just to be told that they forwarded to breakdown the info needed on the repairs.
Western said they haven't received anything yet.
2nd night the room was on my credit card again.
3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th nights the room was paid for by taking advances, because breakdown refused to pay for the room.
Well after being brokedown from Saturday Western Express finally gave them the OK to work on the truck on Thursday evening.
It went back into the bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and was out by 10:00 p.m..
I sat in Fairborn Ohio for 6 days for a 3 hour job to be approved.

Now the following payday everything was deducted out of my check. I was given a negative balance due. That's because the DM I had (Casey Jennings) didn't put me in for breakdown pay. Payroll said they never received the hotel receipts and that's why I was given a negative balance due.

I was out from the 2nd of July and was trying to get home. The planner (Tim) kept saying there was nothing going to Texas. I was stuck running the east coast with a bunch of little 400 to 500 mile runs.

Well after being away from home for 2 months I finally decided to go straight to the management with my problems.
I talked to Matt Wallace, VP of Operations. Matt Buck VP of Flatbed and even sent the President and CEO an e-mail.
    I didn't once get a positive response.

After being out for 8 weeks I was told that when I do get home I can't stay there more than 3 or 4 days.

I can tell you this much. The Driver Managers receive a salary, and a commission on your runs.
They have not one incentive to get you by the house.
Don't believe a word the recruiters tell you. Scott Jackson was my recruiter and, well like I said my experience has been dreadful.
They will sit there in orientation and tell you just how important you the driver is to the company.
But they will not help you at all when you are on the road.

Another thing, the income they are telling you when a prospect calls, well that's what the trainers are making.
I'm a runner never late for a load usually early on both ends.
Never refused a load, but at the same time never was able to bring home more than $575.00 a week.

They constantly send you messages that your 10 hour break is up and you can resume your trip.
They don't want you to idle the truck at all. Infact if it's 72 degrees out your truck will not idle more than 5 minutes.
Breezeway screens are the items they want you to use. Won't pay for it, but they want you to use it.
Idle Aire, well you can use it in certain places until the winter hits. Then it's right back to using their bunk heaters.
The bunk heaters they have are run by your batteries, and shut off once the batteries start to lose a little of their charge.

The trucks run 64 to the pedal and 62 on the cruise. They aren't well taken care. During a PM they will simply pull it in and clear the codes.
Once you are back in the truck, before you are even out of the yard, the same codes will pop on again.

Now we call the Nazareth Pa. yard, Alcatraz, and the Nashville yard is Hotel California.
Alcatraz because it's just a mud hole.
Hotel California because once you check in, you are there for 3 to 4 days.

Orientation is a joke. Infact you don't get paid for it until you enter the third day (Load Securement).
The load securement class is interesting, but for anybody who has experience get ready to meet the Kings of Flatbed.
Everything is the Western way. A coil that requires 5 chains gets 7. I know there's nothing wrong with over securement.
ENJOY THE DRY HAM SANDWICHES NO CHEESE AND WATER THEY GIVE FOR A LUNCH.

You will haul a ton of coils from Precision strip, trailer house parts from Variform, Hay from Kansas and lumber.

I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody. My advice is to look somewhere else.
