Why does everyone complain about Western? Western is the company Hubby works for and all in all we don't really have anything to complain about. Yes some of the shippers suck, yes some of the receivers suck, yes sometimes its hard to get ahold of the DM. But we have good benefits, get good miles, and make good money. Hubby doesn't have any kind of record, or anything that would make another.company.not hire him. But western let him do the refresher course vs. Making him go back to school like the other companies we looked at. Anyway just wanted to say for anyone looking, western isn't that bad don't believe everything you read online.

I used to work for Western. How many miles does he have to drive for that good money? Does the DM let him off when he wants it or does the dm try every trick on the book to keep him on the road? Also when you are on the Nashville yard unless you have a personal vehicle there only way to the pilot is either walking or by shuttle van unless you get a gate pass.

We drive an average of 2200 miles a week, gets home whenever he needs to, granted since I am with him we do not go home very often. And we never have a problem getting a gate pass out of any of the yards.

Yeah but that's under a load unless they changed it. I've been stuck in that yard plenty of times over the weekend due to bad timing or shop work. the company I am with now I do less work and still make more than my highest check (with 3000 miles) I ever had with Western. I guess I complained cause I knew there was better opportunities I could have chosen from the get go. Idk. The only complaint i ever had was the pay

I know that Hubby could get better pay at another company, but like u said every other company we looked at wanted him to completely go back to school before letting him on a truck. Western offered the refesher program which worked out good for us.

What other companies you looked at would have made him retake school rather then a refreshers course? How long has hubby been with Western? That's great he likes the company but keep in mind, that could change at any given time.

They were small local companies around us. No big ones really. He actually worked for western like 5 years ago for two years. And now been with them for almost 4 months. And yeah I know he changes his mind quick.

ok I was going to say the megas require a refreshers course if out of trk for so long.I really hope it work out with Western. But the first time he refuses a load maybe because low on hrs too tired ect your hubby will be on the black list unless he has a sympathetic and caring dispatcher.

Well so far we haven't had too many issues. I know I have complained about a few things in the rants section, but that's more of shippers and receivers then the company. If things continue as they have been then we will be perfectly content with Western

Short term gains for long term losses.
I see this with teams - Watkins and Shepard for example. Short training for new drivers. They bite. They end up quitting within a year.

Why not do solid research - and do whatever necessary to hire on at a good company?

With 2 years flat experience, he should be making 42cpm+ at WE, right?
