I would be glad to tell u about orientation at nashville. It typically lasts two day, three if you go flatbed. The hotels that you will stay in are comfortable and nice. The company offers a shuttle service to get you to and from the hotels. During your time in orientation you will be put through a reaction simulator to test your skills at recognizing dangers. As far as your road test goes, do a proper walk around to include asking another student or the tester to operate the brakes for you to check the lights. when you have to back up always GET OUT AND LOOK. Depending on your test, verifiable experience, etc you may be slated to go out with a trainer like myself. Western is like most companies they have good parts and bad, but its up to you to make up your mind about whatever company you work for. The company is in the process of purchasing new equipment this year, and has just completed the buy out of SMX. So in the past couple years our company has come close to doubling in size. The pay at western may be a little lower than some companies, but you get the miles that you should. Most companies that promise big pay dont have the miles to go with them. I hope that this helps you. Have a super fine one and a safe journey. SJ

well its like this there are many rumors out there about our company. however, we havent filed any bancruptcy. We are a strong company, and the rumors of shutting down flatbed would be crazy to say the least. Flatbed has the most dedicated accounts in our company, and makes the company its most money. If something does come down, believe it when it happens, not rumors that you have heard. Heck if you believed everything every trucker said none of us would be in business lol :biggrin_2559:

You really need to run fast from Western Express. My husband is driving for them at the moment and is in the process of going to another company. The pay is the worse we have ever seen. Plus, when you tell them dates you need to be home they promise you will be there and then when the time comes you are stuck someplace waiting on a load. I could understand this happening occasionally but it is everytime he puts in for his time off. He was home July 4th and I have seen him a total of 2 days since and here it is Aug the 28th. Plus if you have a family to support you better have a wife with a good job as they are only paying 29 cents a mile which is a joke.

Well...I drive for Western, but out of Fontana, and don't have any real complaints. Only time I have issues is when I have to deal with Nashville.

As regards the pay...he must be a rookie driver, but even so - he's getting 12 cents of that on per diem...

My hubby drove for Western from 1997-2000...we lived on the #### east coast,,Edison,NJ ,,,,had some real ####### dispatchers back then too,,,and God forbid you asked to go home at all..had to drive when roads were closed due to ice and snow to deliver friggin lawn chairs in dead of winter,,...safety guy then was Mike May,,and he said shut it down if roads were dangerous which really pissed off John the dispatcher...they went bankrupt once before and then started up again with everything put in his wife's name..so who knows,,if you want home time go somewhere else especially if you don't live really close to major interstate...

western in nashville pretty much sucks, they start you at .029 mile with experience .025 out of school if your dispatched out of nashville your screwed they treat the drivers like crap but if you saw the trash they hire you would see why, its like they only hire people who live under rocks, they have good ones of course but you now the industry we good drivers get dragged down in the mud by the bad ones, on a positive note im dispatched out of atmore al term and treated very well in christines fleet if your a good driver she takes very good care of you, western is a good company if you have a bad driveing record and no one will hire you, meaning you go to western and drive a year clean up your act then drop them for a better company, its just business, if you straight out of school DO NOT COME HERE! the training is bad and you will learn nothing, the operating area is even worse theyre primary operating area is the north east lost of nj and ny bronx queens and long island, and many many toll roads, dont let the recruiters lie to you ask any western driver about where we run. im quiting on jan 12th and moving on to greener pastures GOOD LUCK AND BE A GOOD DRIVER NOT A DOUCHE BAG!!!!!
