Would rather have the shat spreader though. Its got tons and tons of power its deff on roids. We have 3 of them, that one being a spare, and the other two although the drivers got senoirity they refuse to give them up. The volvo probly has more power and rides smoother but it has no cigarette outlet so I cannot plug in my gps, or hook up my inverter and watch TV during my break or if its a long wait at a stop. We have a few that you will wait from 1-3 hours, but they are huge accounts so the company sets everything up before they send someone there. Also the volvo is a one seater, where as the international has to so I can kinda lay down during break or waiting as well. But whatever they do it is what it is, for all I know I could be using something completely different...

As for skinny I never driven a 7 spd here at YRC. At CWF majority of our sterlings were 7spds(older models were 6) The newer trucks were 10spds though. Are the 7spds the sterlings? Here I noticed that most city units are 6spds, and also heard that they were once road units until "retired" then they redo the truck into a city unit... Dont know how true this is. But I do notice when we had the road units they only did that and never went on P/D. At CWF all trucks went out for P/D, two of the long run trucks never slept, they would run p/d stop for a hour then do the long line-haul run, then back and do P/D again

We had an acct in Brooklyn. B&H Photo. Man I loved the money but hated the place. two dock doors, sometimes I'd get a full 8 hrs waiting there. I will never buy anything from them.

Thanks guys, I'm really fired up. Oh yeah, I will definitely be turning slowly. There have been a rash of rear pups turned over round here lately. Yikes! Hope I never get too confident & have that happen. Also, they said I will very rarely be hooking up pups (doubles), so, I guess I'll never get good at it.
I need to get a travel bag. I was checking out a real big duffel bag on wheels, that's an idea. I saw some guy @ YRC come in with 2 plastic Totes, stacked on rollers. Another good idea. I also, eventually, plan on getting a 7" Rand McNally GPS unit & a laptop. You guys have any ideas or tips? Oh, I'm also thinking about bringing my coffee maker with me. lol

Get a laminated map book, it is as effective as the GPS, and doesn't reroute all the time.

You will never need a gps at this job. When you are dispatched you will be given a locator map. It will give you very precise directions. There will also be other drivers there that have been where you are going a hundred times and will go outta there way to help the fng. You will go to the same terminals all the time and will remember the way. Just by yourself a cheap paper map at the truck stop. A big duffle bag will do just fine for your clothes. One of these days you might wanna think about buying a radio box. Ask around cause there's always a guy wanting to sell one or look online. I can direct you to a site that sells them if you need.

Hey, thanks a million for the tips guys. I'm thinkin no matter how prepared I try to be, alot is just gonna have to be learned along the way. Also, 'different strokes for different folks', so, maybe I better not spend a bunch of money right out the gate til I learn what will work for me.

Get yourself a decent radio that can play cds or a ipod. I dont know about the road units but the city trucks dont have radios. Once you are assigned a permanent truck you can install your own into the truck, got a few guys who did so. I only have a GPS since im a city driver and kind of need it. As skinny said all the drivers will be willing to help you out and same with dispatch. At my dispatch theres a bridge we have been told to go around and I had no idea how to and he told me step by step directions. Just the other week we had a guy whose never been here before and wasnt sure how to get back and one of our guys literally told him turn by turn directions(he ran his hub for 7 years so he knew how to get therre no problem)

Well I had a very interesting day yesterday. We have a customer 20 miles away and I had to drop a trailer off then bob-tail back. It felt weird doing that but its what it is. Although my truck is a retired road unit so it pulls very very well. We got a few accounts that all we do is a drop and hook... I dont see then that often since Im bottem of list but one day I will

Also have you ever pulled a contrainer trailer before? I saw one in the yard about a month ago and asked skinny about it. He says at time they pick them up from rail yards or ports. not sure if you have any rail yards by you or not. Just check every square inch f that trailer before you pull it. I dont know if the road drivers pick it up or if the city guys do and road drivers transport it. I didnt pull it to the delivery the shop steward took it, it was only a drop it off.
