I was looking at a Pickup/Delivery job with YRC in Kingsport, TN. Can anyone give any insight as to what the job entails? How is work? Pay? Home time? Thanks in advance for any help!!

Most P&D jobs are pretty much the same. Anywhere from 10-20 stops a day plus pickups. 8-12 hours a day. You have to run you butt off, negotiate city traffic, back into tough places and find a way to pickup and deliver in places where tractor trailers shouldn't be. You usually get a liftgate and pallet jack. Somtimes dock or forklift off the back of truck but liftgate/pallet jack is common. Also inside delivery with handtruck and residential delivery is usually necessary. those are the downsides.
The upside is most are Mon - Fri home every night, hourly pay w OT after 40, decent benefits, weekends and holidays off.
Bump the dock guys, need not apply.
If you don't mind hard work it is one of the better ways to make a living in trucking if you can get the job.
But be warned if the frieght is busy Mon morning turns into Fri night pretty quickly. With travel back and forth to work, OTR guys actiually get more rest.
Good lucktemp409 Thanks this. -
Not too many inside deliveries with YRC. They tell you do what you can without hurting yourself. The non-unions normally will tell you to do it and good luck. I once had an inside delivery and couldn't do it they'd give you a helper or speak to the customer about the delivery.
Although some customers will be with you unloading.
I used to peddle for YRC, and did linehaul as well so any questions just ask. Crossroads pretty much beat me to everythingtemp409 Thanks this. -
I do p/d and id say this job is less of a lifestyle like otr and more like 9 to 5 regular job except more like 9 to 8 or 9 to 9 lol. I work monday through friday with a real weekend with none of that 34 hour reset bs, sleep in my own bed every night. Overtime after 8hours. most of our drivers are physically fit, we dont really have anyone who is morbidly obese like the truckers you see in the truckstop lol
This job is really hard on your body though. Im only 23 and have back pain everyday, so i can imagine ill be messed up once im in my 30's. I also once stopped a falling pallet with my face and left a nice 3 inch cut on my cheek, looked like the joker from batman for a week hahatemp409 Thanks this. -
Forgot about the overtime after 8 hours.

I like P&D, I like being home every night, and I like getting up early. I tried the working 2nd and 3rd shift thing, and it didnt work,
