The Yellow terminal in Chicago Ridge, IL is almost always hiring. I'm not sure if they will be affected by the merge, but they have a huge chunk of real estate right off I294 and I doubt they would move that operation elsewhere...

that yellow location is also leased.

yellow never operated much around owned or mortgaged properties like roadway...

I imagine there will be two YRC terminals (same name) chicago south (roadways current location on US30 / I394) and Chicago West (yellows current location)

it is all just speculation at this point. all one can make is an educated guess as to which direction our ops will go.

Union rep for drivers here in Phoenix told me today that drivers are still getting laid off here and they expect more due to the merger with Yellow and Rodeway. The driver situation here in Phoenix is BAD. No work... Swift is the only company hiring new CDL's and very few jobs for experienced.... and no union jobs in the foreseeable future. With the glut of drivers, pay is dropping also... companies offering $10-$12/hr for experienced drivers.

    Management

Why is the only time union people are concerned with the number of supervisors Yellow or Roadway have is when there is talk about less union jobs? You never say anything when the supervisor staff is reduced and nothing is done with the union people. There is never a word when our pension was changed. Look in the mirror and ask why the company can not make money but the non union companies are. Do not use the same old out about poor management.

I thought that at first - but his profile says he has been a trucker for 30 years...

not sure what angle - or what points he is trying to make.

I've heard several ideals on the seniority merge... but won't know for sure which one they will go with when we merge.

It can only go 2 ways :

Either it will help me ................. or it will hurt me. Since my seniority date is 8/2006, I don't see but one way it will help me.

But maybe it will force a few guys to retire (that have been able to retire since 2005.

Hello, I am new here but I have a vested interest in this discussion.
especially since i was laid off from roadway vegas on 9/12/08 (for the second time in less than a year might i add.) and i thought i would speak up from out here in the west. some of you might find it interesting that i have been called to work every day since friday. apparently the yellow terminal here has 8 men on layoff. compared to 4 at roadway.
