I hope you guys know how much you are admired for your fight. Today's leadership is best described as "SELF-SERVING"
I've watched our proud teamster leadership cower issues that are plainly black & white in the NMFA. Responding "the company can do that" and "you're lucky to have a job" Wake up America, they're GIVING THE FARM AWAY. We'll soon be paying to work if it continues on the current course. Our YRC brothers question why our union never DREW A LINE IN THE SAND. THe hard working dedicated brothers gave 10% and YRC came back for another free dip. When given free money, the companies no longer manage, they run to the trough like squealing pigs. I've work hard to earn the 30 year pension. hoffa allowing YRC to be excused from paying 40,000 weekly payments into the pension fund is unacceptable. Past, current and future retirees are entitled to payments into the pension fund. I'm shocked someone hasn't filed a class action suit preventing the non-payments. You NPME guys are the real teamsters in America.

I worked for New Penn during this time, and I voted no both times I was just upset that my brothers didn't feel the same way.

On a scheduled layover only after 12 hours. If you run out of hours on a via and they put you in a hotel somewhere then yes they pay you a minimum of 10 hours

Good. I wanted to retire from construction work and drive for Roadway but it didn't turn out that way. I got disabled working in another union. I did however work from time to time at union companies, Yellow, Consolidated, Southeastern, I was once hired on the weekends at ABF but the other job prevented it.

By the way, even though I only worked casual I do have kids in trucking, I was wondering what the union pay scales are for ABF compared to YRC companies, both road and city and dock.

I think the pay is pretty much the same, although right now ABF doesnt have to give back that 15%. I believe top rate hourly is almost 25 per hour and .63com. I did have a pay scale sheet that a co-worker gave me thats a union pay sheet. Not sure where they live but different regions pay different amounts.

You know I was a union sheet metal worker. I think the first time that I worked casual was with Yellow Freight in Marietta Georgia in the 70s, the scale was (for my trade) about 10 bucks and hour plus benefits, and the casual pay was right at 9 bucks an hour. Those days, I think the casuals actually made like 50 cents above the starting pay for a regular still on the like, probationary employee, extra board, only minus the benefits, can't remember for sure. I worked a lot at Consolidated, that really saved my butt when I had a baby in the house and I needed money to keep the heat on and food on the table, I was out either on layoff or strike, we had a 7 week strike back then somewhere along the way. A Consolidated driver wouldn't cross my picket line and made some metal workers at a just turned non-union shop carry some very heavy insulated panels from across the street into the shop. He turned me on to the opening at Consolidated.

I was treated very well by those dock workers, well respected, never talked down to. I liked that company, I hate what happened to Consolidated Freight. I can still see in my mind's eye the green and red stripes down the side of the trucks.

Consolidate Freight was the best company I ever drove for! Lost my job there in 1999. Very sad day for a lot of us. Most of the good companies are all gone. YRC is all right but still nothing like it was before the recession. Seems to be bouncing back though.
