The story of Jabin Bogan is sounding less and less like reality and more and more like the farfetched plot of a movie. Think about it, an innocent man who makes a wrong turn and finds himself over the border in Mexico with a truck full of surplus ammunition, gets detained by Mexican police, and despite not having a proper trial he is sentenced to prison and ordered to pay a “fine.” If you’ve missed the specifics, you can find our initial coverage of the story here. Well, it seems like we’ve just learned about the dramatic twist just before the end of the movie.
After being officially released from Mexican prison on the 17th of November, Bogan was then told he was being sent to an immigration detention facility to await deportation. His family journeyed to the border to meet him, and it looked like he was homeward bound. Bogan’s mother, Aletha Smith, was then notified that her son was being held by the Mexican government without giving any explanation or announcing if any additional charges had been made.
There is no word yet as to whether Bogan will be released any time soon or if demands for an additional “fine” will be reiterated.
UPDATE: Bogan was released and returned home just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. ABC News affiliate WFAA reported that Bogan’s mother had to pay a fine to secure his release.
“My son, that’s my motivation,” he told WFAA. “That kept me going every day. My mama is my strength – without my mama I wouldn’t be no where now. My family is my pride and joy.”

His Mother had to pay a fine? Sounds more like extortion or ransom money to me. Did our State Dept. get involved in this?

I think he tried a little thing with smuggling arms across the border. If he gets caught he will use the current story about making wrong turns. If he got away with it, then he will say he got hi-jacked while trying to find his way back. Criminals are very clever these days. Mexico is full of extortions, bribes, crime, murder, corruption. Geez I don’t have enough space to put all things here. Mexico police should have threw the book at him. Perhaps he didnt meet his contact at the border. The contact was at the adjacent both. Come on wake up Mexican Police. How do you think drugs get across? How many border guards get caught each year. Give me a break look at this guy. When criminals get caught they want you to feel remorse. Mexican border is a joke! Mexico closes the border at night. For the comment above GPS is only good as the person hearing or reading instructions. Don’t blame a device. Its an aid not the actual map. You should and every truck driver knows that the GPS is not always 100%. Sometimes there is interference or other malfunctions happens from time to time. Irresponsible if this case was genuine. I don’t believe it for a second. For the other comment above Ofcourse he has to pay a fine. Look at the resources and all the trouble they had to go through. Come on people smarten up.

Roger: “Give me a break look at this guy” What kinda comment is that????????? Please provide your more intelligent logic as to your certainty of guilt should be based beyond a pic, please.
If it were you or your loved ones, then I guess there would be no doubt and the world would believe you….wow smh

roger, what kind of a lowlife person could be like you. other than you. this does not look like a smuggler… to me looks like an out of driving school ,unexperience driver, whom is learning the very hard way. gps is great at times. but DO NOT RELY ON THEM 100%. is very correct.

A simple case of extortion. Let’s keep giving Mexican trucking companies permission to operate in the U.S.

When my last GPS malfunctioned, I was crossing a bridge, and it was telling me that I had arrived at my destination. I thought that was funny. On the other matter, if his B/L didn’t say that he was delivering in Mexico, he should not have crossed the border. They will always let you make a U-turn if you say you’ve made a mistake and took the wrong lane or something. A little common sense goes a long way. I drove trucks for 36 years, all over North America, and never got arrested. A smile, good manners, and, like I said, common sense, will keep you out of trouble.
