A truck thief is in prison after his theft and subsequent stops were recorded by a dash cam. The footage even led to the arrest of some people who bought stolen goods from him while he was driving the stolen truck.
It was around 5am when the regional safety manager for Danella’s Alabama location got a call telling him that the gate around their yard had been busted open. Tools, construction materials, and a truck were missing.
Unfortunately for the thief, the truck had road- and driver-facing cameras onboard as well as GPS tracking equipment. The next day, police were able to follow the GPS straight to the stolen truck which had since been abandoned.
Once they found the truck, they looked back at the camera footage. The camera was programmed to record and store footage any time a safety incident like a sudden stop occurred. Since the thief wasn’t a professional driver, the camera recorded a lot of footage.
During the night, the thief had driven all over town. He had been selling the stolen tools and construction materials to drug dealers. And thanks to the footage filmed by the dash cam, police were able to arrest the drug dealers as well.
