Clean Energy Fuels Corporation has been selected to build a new fueling station using compressed natural gas (CNG) for bus operator Veolia Transportation Services in Los Angeles. Veolia will start running the CNG buses in April through contract with a L. A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
The switch to CNG-fueled buses from diesel-powered units is expected to reduce the amount of particulate matter, toxins, nitrogen oxides and other engine emissions that have been deemed harmful.
Construction for the fueling station is slated to begin in January 2010, with completion expected by the middle of the year. Clean Energy Fuels Corp. works with public bus-transit entities and providers to institute and broaden clean fuel options nationwide. The company assists Veolia at the Foothill Transit and Valley Metro (Phoenix) locations, and works with Southland Transit to fuel buses in L.A.’s San Gabriel Valley.
