National diesel fuel prices slipped for the first time in five weeks, offsetting last week’s 0.7 cent increase by falling the same amount, according to the US Dept. of Energy. After a 22-cent jump over the past four-weeks, the average price dropped to $2.801, still more than 14 cents cheaper compared to the same week of last year.
California topped the price charts, at $2.972. The Gulf Coast region sat at the other end of the spectrum at $2.746. Central Atlantic drivers enjoyed the greatest drop in price, a decrease of 1.4 cents, for $2.926 per gallon.
DOE predicts fourth-quarter diesel prices to average $2.79, the agency reported Nov. 10. That number is up from national average diesel fuel price of $2.48 per gallon this year. Diesel prices are expected to average $2.94 for 2010, that agency said in its monthly energy report, an increase from October’s prediction of $2.78.
