Truck diesel prices dropped for the fourth week in a row, down 1.2 cents to end at an average $2.775 a gallon, reported Transport Topics. The decline marks a four-week total of 3.3 cents reduction, following a 22.6 cent spike over the previous four-week period. That’s still up 16 cents higher than the same week last year.
All major regions saw slight drops in price, except for the New England market which inched higher by $0.001 for an average $2.869. Ironically, New England was the only region with prices lower than same-week 2008 prices, down $0.085 from last year, according to the Department of Energy.
California topped the charts with $2.948 per gallon, down $0.006 from last week, but 41 cents higher than this time last year. The Central Atlantic region followed closely behind at $2.900, with the West Coast region averaging $2.888. Those regions saw differences of $0.007 and $0.008 respectively.
Prices were cheapest in the Gulf Coast, $2.724, down $.014 from last week. The Lower Atlantic area, which saw the greatest price drop at $0.015, averaged a close $2.738.
