Scam Alert! A “recruiter” going by the name of Larry Davis is calling drivers and offering them a trainer… if they’ll wire him $200. It’s one of the oldest scams in the industry, but apparently people are still falling for it.
The Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) issued a bulletin on April 21st which stated that the scammer was posing as a recruiter for Knight Transportation. There is of course no recruiter named Larry Davis that works for Knight and the carrier does not charge recruits according to the CVTA.
The CVTA reportedly received the information about the scam from the ATA. There are no exact details available, but according to the CVTA the scammer has succeeded at duping “several people” and at least one police report has been filed in Florida.

People still fall for this “wire me money” scam? I get a dozen in my e-mail every week. Apparently there are billions of dollars floating around in unclaimed lottery winnings and drug money seized by crooked FBI agents. All I have to do is fill out a form with all my personal information and send it along with $250 to “secure” my money. They even “100% guarantee” I’ll get it!
Seriously people, even a tiny little bit of common sense goes a LONG way.

The problem with this story is, its preaching to the choir. We are already hired and working I am sure if we’re reading this. It’s the people out there, unemployed and not online with info from here that are going to be helped. I am sure that yes, there are gullible people out there that just don’t know or have a clue and are taken in by really good lairs and con artists.
The ones I really hate seeing are on lists like craigslist that pretend to represent companies but really don’t. They are just head hunters looking for warm bodies to pass along to trucking companies to make a bounty off of them.
I have even see in truck stops drivers with a company make up their own recruitment fliers, with their own website and was told, don’t go to the company website, but to this one instead. What a joke, the people out here trying every way they can to make money off of us.

This scam is nothing compare to fake roads service scam that been going on for several years.
They for payment upfront for tire service or towing with com check. They get all your info, call a legitimate road service. But the time you realize what happen , its too late, you check is cashed and you need to pay again for road service. They post their ads everywhere, in every single state, scam honest trucker for thousands of $$ every single day and night. Be careful.

Perry,
With the pay out levied against Swift to the tune of $4.4 million, by the Dept of Labor, I believe you might want to keep reign on such humor as law suits are still active due to questionable recruitment practices within your company.
