The I-95 cooridor in the Northeast could use at least a few more overnight parking spots… and it would be a bonus if sinks and toilets are also included.
Don Dierdorff says
No toilets gives DOT and the rest of revenue — oops, I mean law enforcement a chance to arrest drivers as sex offenders if they piss on their tires.
Jimmy says
If 71% of independents quit then there won’t be a parking shortage.
Jason says
LoL!
Ray says
LOL! Problem solved!
tsavory says
nope they will be replaced by 71% steering wheel holders with next to no training and all your bumpers will be laying on the ground.
Mike says
Best idea I’ve seen yet.Swift,Schneider,Werner,Celadon,JB Hunt and other large companies can pick up the slack.
Josh says
I drive overnight and shut down around 8am et. No problems finding parking. What they need to do is add on to exit ramps, the way they have the accident investigation sites, and make it truck parking. That way, if a customer is closed or isn’t ready, drivers don’t have to park hours away because there’s nowhere closer and the customer doesn’t allow overnight parking. Guys already have to park on ramps, why not make it safer to do so? Parking for two or three trucks added onto the side of most ramps would nip it in the bud.
Ray says
That’s a great idea.
Joe Skeptical says
The customer should be made to address parking but you think that would ever happen? He wants a his load of lettuce or toilet paper or orange juice delivered or picked up at dock at 7 AM and doesn’t care in the least what the truck has to do to make the appointment. Think anybody will say “hey shipper/receiver, pay detention NOW or provide a good lot with a decent BATHROOM & showers”? LOL and there’s ALWAYS a truck willing to accommodate whatever the shipper wants.
Josh says
And it would be a relatively quick, easy, low cost solution.
Don Dierdorff says
Good luck with finding adequate, safe parking! Will never happen.
Ray says
I hate it when I trip plan to stop at a rest area and then it turns out to be closed.
tsavory says
yep and the next three T/S are packed so that you can’t make it around the lot to leave after seeing no open spots
Mike says
Doesn’t make sense, concerned about parking but at same time close down rest areas. I know of some long abandoned rest areas that could be reopened for parking only. After all drivers just need a place to sleep and kill 8 to 10 hours
Wayne W says
Happened to me on I-88 in NY. Two rest areas were closed and I just gave up and parked by the on ramp at the last closed one.
Mike says
All they have to do is offer property tax rebates for businesses that allow overnight truck parking then there will be plenty
Joe Skeptical says
“They” ?? Who, the IRS? Tell us another one. That was a good joke.
Gary Wood says
Go figure. The federal website is not available at this time. We are the movers and tbe shakers of this country. We should be able to park and rest safely when our time is due. They won’t do a thing about it.
Larry says
If drivers didn’t throw their pee bottles and trash out some might not have a problem with us parking in their lots.
Shauna says
I think some miss the point as to why guys use pee bottles, let me help you out. If you have more places to stop with restrooms and showers that a driver can easily access while diving, how mant pee bottles and trash would you see? I do not condone leaving these things everywhere and think they should hold on to them until they reach some place to dispose of them, but I can also see where after years of doing that and putting up with bad attitudes would make me feel careless too. If you want respect then give respect and you will have more compliance and a better day.
