J.D. Power and Associates’ annual heavy-duty engine owner satisfaction survey showed a large increase in happy vocational truck owners, due to a general decline in engine problems. Four engine factors were examined, including engine quality, engine performance, engine cost of ownership, and engine warranty. Overall, satisfaction was at 733 on a 1,000-point scale, up from 725 last year.
Mercedes owners ranked highest in satisfaction for the second year in a row, measured at 765.
Cummins and Caterpillar were above average at 748 and 747, respectively.
Mack trailed well below the industry average at 714.
Survey responses came from owners of two-year-old Class 8 trucks.
