A former Tennessee Highway Patrol officer has been charged with crimes related to an alleged bribery scheme he ran at a weigh station. The officer has been indicted on six felony charges.
Ray Lee Stubblefield Jr. worked at the weight station on I-81 in Greene County, Tennessee. According to WATE, Stubblefield allegedly accepted bribes from truck and trailer repair businesses in exchange for sending them ‘customers.’
Stubblefield faces three counts of bribery of a public servant and three counts of conspiracy to bribe a public servant. The violations allegedly occurred between 2015 and 2017, but an internal investigation didn’t begin until March of 2019. Stubblefield was fired for “gross misconduct” on September 12th, 2019.
Court documents don’t appear to indicate whether or not any of the three business owners who paid Stubblefield kickbacks have been charged with a crime.
Stubblefield is scheduled to be arraigned on January 10th.
