Job Title: CDL Switcher and Shuttle driver
Location: Zip Xpress, Holland Michigan
 Shift: Nights 
 Employment Type: Full-Time
 Reports To: Operations Supervisor
 
Job Summary
The CDL Switcher is responsible for safely moving trailers within the yard, positioning them at dock doors, and ensuring efficient flow of inbound and outbound freight. This role requires strong attention to safety, coordination with the operation team, and compliance with all DOT and company regulations. Also includes shuttle work for nearby customers.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Safely maneuver trailers to and from dock doors, staging areas, and parking locations within the yard
• Hook and unhook trailers, including performing airline and electrical connections
• Conduct pre-trip and post-move inspections of yard trucks and trailers
• Verify trailer numbers, dock door assignments, and load status
• Communicate effectively with the operations team
• Maintain yard organization to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion
• Follow all safety policies, DOT regulations, and company procedures
• Report equipment defects, damages, or safety hazards immediately
• Keep accurate records as required (trailer moves, inspections, logs)
• Assist with other duties as assigned to support operations
• After Hours Shuttle work for nearby customers

 
Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A)
• Clean driving record and ability to meet company and DOT standards
• Prior yard switching or driving experience preferred (training may be provided)
• Ability to operate yard trucks, tractors, and trailers safely
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if required

 
Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb in and out of equipment multiple times per shift
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating vehicles
• Ability to lift 50 pounds as needed
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

 
Work Environment

• Industrial yard and warehouse environment
• Exposure to moving equipment, traffic, noise, and weather conditions
