First two months have been nice. Getting two full days home every week. My truck was well maintained and clean when I got it. Getting 2500ish miles everyweek. $1400-$1500 gross weekly. Mostly drywall but it’s easy. Work for them, they’ll work for you

Pros

Pay, Home Time, Friendly Environment

Cons

Cant think of anything

I'm redoing my review now that I've been on the road a few years. It's a good starter company especially if you're fresh out of school and have no experience. The pay was a little low I averaged maybe $1,100 take-home pay a week. Basically get about 6-7 months and get out of there they only give a penny raise every year. It genuinely is a good starter company you want to do flatbed your first year that way you get acclimated to the worst possible job. if they paid for money it genuinely would be an okay company.

Pros

Family atmosphere, good training

Cons

Terminals need remodeling, pay is low, in training the food is not that great microwavable stuff for breakfast.

Gypsum Express is a good company to drive for. I am normally home 2 days a week, Fri/Sat, Sat/Sun, sometimes Sun/Mo. They pay me .47/mi loaded and .39/mi empty and it has its up and down like any other company. What I really like about it is that the owner is also a driver and he understands what you go through. My driver manager is pretty good too and she does whatever she can to take care of me when I have a problem. I like working here and wish that more people knew about the comapny. There are times like everywhere else where you do not get home regular, like you may not get home until Sunday but that's just part of driving a truck.

Pros

Pay, home time, management, owner cares

Cons

Sometimes stuck out (not very often), but that's part of the job

Let me start by saying gypsum Express as a starter company only!!! Gypsum Express has a serious communication problem they do not communicate whatsoever with the drivers!!! Danville Virginia has an awful dispatcher I'm not for sure of the other terminals but do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!! You get no miles and also equipment that breaks down all the time and they make up rules every single week like first graders playing hide and go seek. They make it sound good by giving you 47 cpm. But you have no miles you don't know what you're doing from day today or load to load. You have no way of planning your week or your day. Basically that have too many chiefs and not enough Indians!!! The insurance that gypsum offers is a joke if you need insurance for your family do not I repeat do not go there!!!!! You will go bankrupt with that insurance!!! Basically gypsum is the kid with the magnifying glass and the drivers are the ants!!!

Gypsum Express drivers?

See them operating out of a gypsum plant in my neck of the woods. I have not talked to any drivers, but they always seem to be driving nice equipment in a professional manner. And of course with hauling drywall.... tarp, tarp and tarp.

You will probably not see 3k a week. I have worked for them and the most miles I had was 2600. I've had as low as 1100. A lot of unpaid waiting time with this company. Detention pay is almost impossible and bonuses are hard to keep due to unrealistic dispatch times. Often run out of drive time on Friday which results in waiting till Saturday to make it home. Weekends off are not quality because you usually leave out on Sunday. The cheapest insurance will run you about 50 a week and is not good for anything except maybe cancer or a heart attack. You can easily waste a 14hr. day for 300 miles (this happens often). The main problem with this company is that they haul in stock items, therefore you are delivering product that the receivers are in no hurry to get. (no one, I repeat no one is in a hurry to unload you). This company also punishes all for the mistakes of a few, for instance they expect you to be at the receiver an hour before they are even open because other drivers are constantly late. Most places will not unload you before they load their trucks. 95% of the time you will waste at least 2hrs. at every receiver and you are not getting paid. They will even stop unloading you and unload other carriers first and then come back to you. (this will definitely piss you off, because the other drivers are usually local and paid by the hour). No extra pay for strapping, only tarping. Some loads can take in excess of 3hrs. to tarp and strap all for a measly 12 bucks. I will sum this up by saying I left out on Easter Sunday at noon and didn't get home until the following Saturday at 10 AM. I ran out of drive time 1hr. and 20 min. from home. I worked 92 hrs. that week and had 1900 MI. my take home pay was $445.00. That's .35 cents less than minimum wage.
