Company overall is nice but the process of me leaving the company was very unprofessional. Did training out the Amherst wi location and tried to give a two weeks notice because I found employment else where and was told I needed to gather my things and get out truck. Was left in New York and had to get myself back home company didn’t try to re route me back to my terminal to do right process for me leaving and failed to return me home if I could give this company a 1 I would.

Northeast Regional, hourly pay, trucks were clean well kept ,training dept was 5 stars, 75% of office staff will respect you and most mechanics will.

Pros

Good equipment overall, good training dept. Most office people show respect.

Cons

Some policies are over the top, alot of new office people, some planners don't care about drivers, alot of trailers had illegal tires few drivers report them I had 1 trailer totally bald tire I just picked up.

This is not the same company as the great company run by H.O. back in the day. Listen, the man has done great things and deserves to sell his company to whoever the he11 he wants / make some $$ for himself and his fam. Respect for him. Make no mistake, this company is now 'Bison.' the Canadian mega carrier who bought it. Not H.O. Wolding. Some of the old 'simps' remain. H.O.'s Son is technically in charge. He was very nice, but did not appear to be involved in the operation. The operations appear to be run by the guy Bison stuck into their safety department. This guy is really bizzare. He's always running around, looking at you with his beady little eyes squinting at you, taking notes about you... In my case the dude called my former employer (where I quit), and asked them about me. I suspect in Canada, they are probably a bit more honest when giving out phone recommendations. But in the states, many mega carriers lie about good drivers as a competitive move. And they play up bad drivers for the same reason. And listen, I understand that, it's the smart thing to do because you don't want your competition to improve. The problem is, this guy believes everything he hears. SO make sure you have your lawyer send your previous employer a letter warning them about this tactic if you are serious about working at H.O. OR get it squared away with your recruiter BEFORE you waste a week at their orientation. Tell them, LISTEN, I QUIT, (insert name of mega here) and you need to understand, when the Canuuk who now runs your company calls them up, they are not going to paint a pretty picture of me.. (Because you quit)... BUT that's normal in the U.S... MOST companies know this. Not this guy. So unless they've replaced this man, be prepared to have him squint at you frequently, possibly send you home based on incorrect / illegally obtained information that isn't even true. Another thing they will do is force you to team for 7 weeks. They are now worse than Swift with this @#$. I did hear about this... AND I clarified with my recruiter that I was not going to be locked into a closet with another grown man with a farting problem for 2 months just so H.O. can maximize their ROI. I was told "one to two weeks max.." THEN third day of actual orientation, I was told, nope... 7 weeks (they call it training (but who needs this much training time lol It's just another variation of the Knight Brothers 'team Jedi mind trick). BTW: If you are riding with another driver for any length of time, that's team. So I began looking at that time. The day I was released, I already had 5 or 6 good offers 'conditional hires,' before they lied to me and told me I failed the driving test.. POINT BEING: DO NOT think just because they are supposedly a top trucking company, they will be honest. They now clearly have no qualms about lying, and I don't think they were like that before Bison got them. Other issues: Had to contact the Wisconsin Department of Revenue to get them to pay me any more than $23.00 and some change for that week. They did not pay me UNTIL contacted by WDOR. I can provide email chain / communication with WDOR and them to prove this if anyone is seriously considering them / wants to get a glimpse of what they really are.. They finally DID pay, but they made me 're-earn' it to get it. Without the legal push, they clearly planned to scr@w me over. It was 2 or 3 months post my termination (early Nov to late Jan approximately) before I finally got that. Other than the H.O. nostalgia, I saw no positive qualities of this company. Just another frieght lane company with beat up old Cascadias. Yes, their equipment is mainly very old / dirty Freightliners. They were running regen on these antiques every day. Not really a terminal. A metal building with a basement and 5 or 6 rooms. Pay maybe a notch higher than Swift at best in my opinion. I.e. solid but not spectacular (if you can squeeze it out of them lol). I am digging deep for something nice to say because I try to be fair.. And honestly the company is a lot of hype and that's it. You'll get there and then go, "so this is it?!" There were a couple nice people there. Wisconsin people are comparitively nice... So this place is maybe better destination than U.S. Express, TransAm, Schnieder, C.R. England or any other of the mega's who treat drivers less than human, but not by much. Bottom 10% fo sho. I was really surprised to learn behind all the friendly, Wisconsin talk, they were not so honest to me. I was like, 'REALLY, they REALLY just did that..."

Pros

I learned trust NOone but NOONE in this industry. Not even those who supposedly are truthful.

Cons

Former great company oddly trying to change from the stuff that worked into the 'tried and failed' standard mega methods.

I have been with HOW for over 39 years. We are a family and always have been treated like a member. As in any family there is disputes but usually are addressed and resolved.

Pros

Willing to fit the job to your schedule and needed home time. Pay is fair and is improving.

It still is a trucking job and its not for everyone.

H.O. Wolding ?

From what I've gathered, HO wolding is a very good company to work for. I've met two of their drivers before, and they both seemed to really like it there. They have pretty nice equipment too.

H.O. Wolding ?

All the drivers I've met that work for them have had nothing but good things to say. You could certainly do worse that's for sure.

H.O. Wolding is a GREAT company!

I really enjoy working at HOW. I cannot imagine driving anywhere else. I get the miles that I desire accompanied with good pay/benefits. The average pay is anywhere from $38,000 to $78,000 miles. Each driver has a assigned dispatcher that we work hand and hand with to get the balance of miles and home time desired. They also pay practical loaded and empty miles. All and all it is has been a great experience.

H.O. Wolding is a GREAT company!

Sorry that HOW did not give you the nod...

It is IMO a great place to start or move to as a company driver.

It is a good ethical company that treats it employees quite well.

The pay mentioned earlier is the raw data posted, year by year for various seniority levels posted iby the company....being raw data, if a seniority level has just one or two people, and they are doing mostly NYC work, getting the extra pay for that, it can throw off the averages...

what I can say is that the miles are avalsble....as many as you can find to run...and since there is almost all company drivers, there is no leasing games....and folks tend to stay at how...many drivers have left, only to return....if folks leave, it tends to be cause trucking was not for them.

The freight may not be glamours at how, but it needs to be moved, and it pays....

lots of paper for the central US guys, and water/groceries for the east coast, but unlike some consumer goods, it is used when the economy is good or bad.

The company is IMO a gem of a company...a place a newbie can start and be treated with respect, and not be taken advantage of. It is a smaller company, and hiring can be pretty varible from what I have seen when it comes to different areas, but it is cause they hire where they need people.

I get home almost every weekend ( unless I want to go somewhere, or I am due for work on my truck), and I like running regional...lots of work, but decent pay.

The starter trucks are pretty tired, but mine is still in good mechanical shape...maintance is good...lots of new truck and trailers are arriving, and the oldest stuff is being retired...

if you go to HOW, don't expect a new truck till you are pretty senior...

the company seems to keep trucks quite a while....but just like with keeping a car, it simply makes ecnomic sense....so you do work a bit harder perhaps for the extra pay...but it is like the old saying...all the chrome won't get you home...they are work trucks...they are company trucks...and as such, are typicall freightliners....

a few have apu's, many more with bunk heaters, some with opti-idle....and a pretty logical idle policy...do it when you need to....but minimize it...it costs money, etc...so far none of the draconion policies that many other places have enforced...in many ways HOW still has the teamwork/family run atmosphere of a much smaller company....heck the name on the side of the truck is there because they own the company, and they are still involved on a daily basis...

If I was looking for a job, and HOW called, IMO, go for it. It is not perfect, but in my research, it is among the best if not THE BEST starter company....and many folks stay for a few million miles....that should say something!!!

HO Wolding - Making my own hours...

When I began working at HO Wolding, I told them the schedule I wanted (Days off/Days on). My dispatcher keeps be right on the mark for getting home and makes sure I have a load going out when I am ready. I have no major complaints. Keep up the good work HOW!
