J.B. Hunt Transport Services recently tapped Shelley Simpson to take the helm as president, effective Aug. 1.
Simpson holds positions as J.B. Hunt’s chief commercial officer and executive vice president of people and human resources. During her 28-year career with the freight carrier, Simpson logged 15 years in upper management and led International Services and Corporate Marketing. She follows John N. Roberts III, who is expected to continue as a board member and CEO.
“Over her tenure at J.B. Hunt, Shelley has worn multiple hats across our business, bringing a data-driven, experienced-based approach to every area she has led,” Roberts reportedly said. “If you look at the most disruptive areas of our company, from new technologies to global commercialization to investments in our people, Shelley’s innovative leadership has always guided us toward positive results.”
Her work with the trucking brand has proven rewarding for stakeholders, which was reflected by her mercurial rise within the company. Over the last five years, Simpson has been part of a team that nearly doubled the company’s annual revenue and reportedly posted $14 billion over the last 12 months.
“As our year-long 60th anniversary comes to a close, I can’t help but reflect on our company’s storied history of innovation,” Simpson reportedly said. “From leading the way as the industry’s first asset-based intermodal service provider to leveraging the benefits of technology for shippers and carriers through J.B. Hunt 360, our people have and will continue to fuel our growth through a cycle of innovation that is intrinsic to our organization.”
Ward Transport Purchases Quality Cartage
Ward Transport and Logistics continues to increase its footprint west by acquiring Chicago-based Quality Cartage.
The move to expand from a mid-Atlantic carrier to a more national position started in 2021, when Ward opened its 21st service center in Toledo, Ohio. Now the Ward leadership team works diligently with Quality to sync processes and systems and develop the corporation’s 22nd outpost.
“Quality has been a reliable partner for years, which allowed us to provide our customers with exceptional service to the Chicagoland area,” President Bill Ward Jr. reportedly said. “The energy level between the teams was exciting, and the motivation to work together is truly inspiring.”
The recent acquisition of Quality Cartage means that Ward has opened at least three new locations in as many years.
