Performance Team, a cold storage and distribution organization, recently announced its intention to build a facility in Wilmington, North Carolina. The company plans to open during the third quarter of 2023, adding to its vast network of fulfillment centers across North America.
The Tar Heel State reportedly accounts for 10 percent of all American pork exports, the third-largest state in terms of production, the seventh largest in poultry, and the number one sweet potato producer. Wilmington has been strategically selected as a cold storage hub for these exports. The Performance Team facility is expected to be near 27 refrigerated commodity production sites within 80 miles. The center would have the capacity to reach 225 million consumers within a 1-2 day freight transportation run.
Performance Team reportedly operates more than 150 distribution and fulfillment center locations in North America. These are part of a network that includes Maersk’s e-commerce logistics capabilities in the U.S. and Pilot Freight Services.
