Air Products, a global company who produces industrial gases and hydrogen, is teaming up with Cummins to transform its fleet of trucks, about 2000 of them, to hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. They aim to accelerate the use of hydrogen fuel-cell trucks in all major continents that use freight trucks.
Cummins is going to provide Air Products with hydrogen fuel cell electric power trains that will be integrated into certain OEM partner’s freight trucks. The pilot phase, along with a demonstration, is scheduled to begin in 2022.
The two companies, Cummins and Air Products, will be working together to increase accessibility of renewable hydrogen and strengthening the hydrogen infrastructure.
Air Products hopes that by being a forerunner of heavy-duty fleet trucks being hydrogen fuel-cell powered will create growth opportunities and increase the sustainability of the industry by making zero-emission vehicles. As the world starts looking for cleaner, and cheaper, fuel sources, so too are forward-looking companies like Air Products and Cummins.
Air Products technologies are being used in more than 1.5 million annual re-fuelings in 20 countries. The company has more than 60 years of global hydrogen experience. Cummins has deployed more than 2000 fuel-cells globally.
