Five people have been indicted by a grand jury on allegations of wire fraud and conspiracy after they allegedly intentionally caused an accident with a truck and then did whatever they could to squeeze the most money out of it possible – including getting reportedly unnecessary surgeries. And it seems as though their attorney may have been in on it.
On June 6th, 2017, a car in Louisiana sideswiped a trailer operated by Southern Refrigerated Transport, a subsidiary of Covenant Transport. Inside the car were five individuals between the ages of 25 and 63.
According to the indictment, the occupants of the car planned on using the crash in order bring civil lawsuits against Covenant Transport. The fraudsters’ attorney, named in the indictment as “Attorney A,” allegedly paid one of the “victims” $7,500 on the day of the crash – a tiny sum compared to the amount the attorney stood to make off of the $1 million settlements that were requested.
Attorney A also allegedly had three of the car occupants get treated by specific doctors. Attorney A then also allegedly instructed one of the car occupants to get neck surgery because that could result in more money from the lawsuit.
While Attorney A has not been charged, lawyers for Covenant say that the current indictment marks just “the tip of the iceberg.”
Each car occupant has been indicted on six counts of wire fraud. Each count carriers a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.

I’m all about people getting their pound of flesh when a company causes them harm…

Good. I hope they throw away the key. Too many idiots on the road that place frivolous claims against trucking companies because there are so many personal injury attorneys out there that say they can get money from truck crash. I’m sick of the trucking company being blamed when alot of these accidents are caused by cars.
One of my biggest complaints is the idiots that don’t know how to merge or the idiots that cut us off thinking they have to go because 75 feet will lose them time. In addition to that they are thinking it doesn’t matter if the truck rear ended me I’ll get paid because it’s his fault.
Wrong. I got dash cam smile for the camera when you swoop and squat because it will back me up.
Experienced Trucker says
Unneccessary surguries??? Don’t surgeons know if someone REALLY ‘NEEDS’ one? Cutting n chopping when not needed by doctors are also fraud.
Baby Bear says
I’m pretty sure that client went to a ‘specific’ doctor to get that arranged.

The diagnosis is done by another doctor surgeons are referred by doctors who are working for the attorney these doctors are those people who want to make easy money without being able to do nothing when attorneys get a case they refer to the doctors who will pay them commission back basically attorneys and doctors sre middle people in this scenario
SFM worldwide says
I believe that these bill boards that advertise big truck accidents and how they can get them millions should be against the law. All its doing is giving these scumbags the idea. And lawyers who post them bill boards should be fined like hell.

I agree with SFM worldwide

This is what happens when companies defer to the lawyers and accountants telling them it’s cheaper to settle, without thinking about the precedent that sets, and the cost in the long term.
I got in a fender bender that was caused by a distracted driver and the cops didn’t cite him because his was the only vehicle damaged and they figured that was enough, and I later found out that the company still settled with insurance.
MrYowler says
“Attorney A has not been charged”
This should raise some red flags about the legal system and the interests shared among members of the BAR Association, across lines between prosecutors and perpetrators.
“Attorney A” seems to have been the mastermind of this scam – as he would have been largely trained to be, in law school. Perhaps we have too many lawyers, if this is the best that they can do with their professional training. Maybe we could even live without this particular attorney for “up to 25 years in prison”.
Steve says
The Dr’s are generally in on it with the lawyers. Many organizations continue to run this scam. It’s the reason for a dash camera.
Salih says
Fantastic! Make sure you keep following this bc they each need some prison time and the driver needs his DAC and MV records completely wiped clean.

Bravo Covenant. Attorney A needs 100 years in cell block C

They need to get the attorney 5 times the fine and suspend his license for good possibly just possibly the other attorneys they will learn the lesson and stop the fraud lawsuits all over the country I understand when someone gets hurt but most of them doing it for money only
Ken says
Everyone involved except the driver an company should be hung out to dry, the attorney should lose his license to practice law the doctor should lose his license and the people in the car nailed should get the maximum sentence
David Sanchez says
It made me so happy to read something like this with this accident and this lawyer just crooked lawyers and doctors and the thing is that we drivers always get the blame because we supposed to be professionals I feel that anybody that is inquiring a license to drive to take a test like we do and learn more about the tractor trailers the way that we are exposed to somebody else’s fault how it breaks the distance that we need to do the job between cars and these people just throw themselves in front of the truck and then the police come and blame us for everything
Von says
Hope they all get 100 years. Well deserved! Scumbag scammers
Joshua says
You thought you were gonna get money from this only to find out that it backfire and now your gonna have to pay back some money plus do prison time. Was it really worth it??
Gary says
What’s that about attorneys wanting to raise insurance minimums? This is why they need to leave them right where they are. These scumbag ambulance chasers are convincing people that they can become instant millionaires for a small catch.
Kelly D says
Hmmm, wonder if they were all placed in another car for a collision, that wasn’t an accident. Would that be a reasonable lesson since it’s what they wanted in the first place. No payment neccessary just enjoy the unintended consequences, if they survived.
Jb says
The blood sucking attorneys should not go unpunished and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I was in a cabover in Pittsburg. I was merging trying to get over two lanes to take the exit where all the damn interstates come together. A driver blinked his lights at me so I moved over. A little wee car thought he was signaling her and she moved right in front of my right steer tire. I heard beep beep beep, and stopped. She was a young woman. Her driver’s door was crushed. She swore she was not hurt. She refused to get into the ambulance. She climbed up into my cab to use my wired cell phone. ( This was years ago ) About a month later we got notice that she was SUING the company and me! I went and gave a deposition. We knew we could beat this BS suit! I was informed later that the company gave her $25,000.00 to go away. I was pissed but they said it would have cost that much to fight it. Thankfully, it didn’t cost me a dime!

Hear, hear, they ve gain nothing but unnecessary surgery that will ruin their appearance (which I give a damn about), plus money they can t spend any way,(the money these type of people gain should be given to the real victims of this SCAMMING and that is the trucking company themselves. MAY THE REST ROT IN HELL

I hope they drop the soap in the prison shower and get what they really deserve. Screw all of them . Hopefully they might get shanked too . Justice prison style .

Yes we see this ALL the time on the road or you see the cut off and then the hard braking follows….. This reminds me of a story of my husband he’s a construction worker and he was on a 4 lane hwy. 2 lanes were travel lanes and two were coned off for the workers. So his job was to sweep the cuts out. So one truck is going forward and he was going backwards and they were tackling the cuts from both sides. Well a civilian drove her car into the work zone and right behind my husband and you know the saying if you can’t see my mirrors then I can’t see you and he rolled over her hood in slow motion of course but it did major damage and her car was towed away. While waiting for the tow truck and police she was telling him that she was on Xanax and that she needed one at the moment because she was having anxiety about the accident. The police ticketed her but my husband’s company paid her $15,000 the blue book value of her car. I mean he was in the work zone working. She got ticketed but the company said it’ll be cheaper to pay her. She did have to sign a disclosure to not come back and sue again.

Phony x-rays. Someone who is really in traumas x-rays. Just a stitch or two to look like surgery. Perhaps a scar. The doctors need to be on the line as well. Perhaps their practioners. Must have planned to get alot of money . I didn’t read what became of the trucker. Beware of those who also hit people with new vehicles they know you have full coverage.
OLD GUY says
I hope they all enjoyed their cavity searches. 😂…..Hopefully they each get plenty of good loving in the prison showers . 😘 And a shank or two in the ribs maybe ? 🤷♂️😆.

What else would you expect from lowlifes? Some attorneys that I’ve met , would take nickels off of a dead man’s eye or sell their mothers. How many advertisements have you seen that says – big trucks cause big accidents ,I (we) will get the money you deserve . They’re not interested in what actually happened, just the money-and of course, it’s the truck’s fault no matter what 99.9% of the time! Why not require every vehicle on the road to have the same amount of insurance as trucks, that way , these attorneys would have ‘open season ‘ on everyone and possibly give us a little relief? I hope these frauds, liars and scammers get whatever the maximum penalty is under the law!
sonny Pruitt says
What a poorly written article.if the car sideswiped the trailer why was there a lawsuit in the first place?the fraudsters? Shouldn’t it say the ALLEGED fraudsters? If their found innocent they could sue TR for defamation. TR has basically convicted them already. Guilty until proven innocent seems to be the new American justice system. How much money did they get? If they got a million dollars each they could pay the 250,000.00 and still be 750,000.00 ahead. But we don’t know. Don lemon would be proud. A journalist would laugh at this garbage. Journalism in America is a joke.
