Volvo Trucks North America dealer General Truck Sales has earned the Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealer designation at two locations after completing training and facility upgrades.
Four more Volvo and Mack battery-electric truck dealers have been certified in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, and Oregon. To become EV-certified, dealers must meet strict safety, infrastructure, charging, tooling, and training requirements. This ensures sales teams are trained to consult with fleets considering investing in electric offerings. Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, said their goal of developing an electromobility support ecosystem for their electric trucks is happening quickly. Volvo EV-certified dealers can service the Volvo VNR Electric, and Mack EV-certified dealers can service the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle.
General Truck Sales has earned the Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer designation at two flagship locations — Toledo, Ohio, and Pendleton, Indiana — near major interstates. Pendleton dealership is the first official Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealer in Indiana, and its Toledo dealership is now the second in Ohio.
General Truck Sales can now service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle at its Toledo, Ohio, location. The dealer’s service team has two technicians trained and equipped for battery-electric truck maintenance and repairs at each location. They also have a 50kW electric vehicle charger with multiple outlets for charging flexibility.
Where Do Electric Trucks Fit In?
General Truck Sales is Mack’s first Ohio location to be a certified EV Dealer. “We are excited to start the new year adding another new state into our expanding network of certified EV dealerships…We see the freight transportation industry’s acceleration towards alternative fuel and zero-emissions vehicles and are excited to help Midwestern fleets as they move towards the future of heavy-duty transport,” said Steve Bassett, president of General Truck Sales. “Our more progressive customers see the need and value of reducing their carbon footprint…”
Bergey’s Truck Centers’ Trenton, NJ, location is now the second Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer and the first dealer in the state to be EV certified for Mack. Sales reps have been trained to help customers apply for public funding for purchase costs, and four other locations are in the certification process. Bergey’s has 17 locations in DE, MD, PA, and two in NJ.
“Mack dealers continue to commit to EV certification,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “It’s no surprise that Bergey’s Truck Center has invested to achieve certification and help move the industry towards zero emissions.”
Portland TEC Location First Certified Mack/Volvo EV Dealer in Oregon: Volvo’s most prominent West Coast dealer group, TEC Equipment, has completed Volvo Trucks’ Certified Electric Vehicle Dealership training program at its Portland, Oregon, location. This is the first dealership in Oregon to achieve the Volvo or Mack certification and can now service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle.
This is the fourth TEC Equipment location to be EV-certified. Other EV-certified locations (all in California) are Fontana, La Mirada, and Oakland; Dixon is being worked on. TEC Equipment, the nation’s first Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealership, supports more than a dozen fleets in maintaining their Volvo VNR Electrics. Grant Small, VP of operations for Oregon, says the Portland dealership is “well-prepared…to assist with the sales process and EV fleet maintenance.” TEC Equipment operates 32 locations in WA, OR, NV, CA, AZ, NE, IA, and SD.
