FBI Investigates Death of Truck Driver Missing After Florida Stop
Federal investigators are continuing to examine the death of a commercial truck driver whose body was discovered in Georgia after he disappeared during a delivery route to Miami. The case has raised concerns across the trucking industry as authorities work to determine exactly what happened.
According to the FBI, 41-year-old Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez went missing after picking up a shipment of vehicles at the Port of Brunswick in Georgia on April 16. He was transporting the vehicles to Miami when investigators say he was last seen alive at a rest stop along Interstate 95 in Brevard County, Florida, during the early morning hours of April 17.
Tractor-Trailer and Driver Found in Separate Locations
Hours after Gonzalez disappeared, his tractor-trailer was found abandoned in Port Wentworth, Georgia, near Savannah. The location was approximately 320 miles away from the Florida rest stop where he had last been seen.
Meanwhile, authorities discovered a body in coastal Glynn County, Georgia, about 80 miles south of where the truck was located. Investigators later confirmed the body belonged to Gonzalez.
At this time, the FBI has not released details regarding the cause of death. In addition, no arrests or criminal charges have been announced as the investigation remains active.
GPS Data Reveals Suspicious Truck Movement
Investigators are closely reviewing GPS data from the tractor-trailer to piece together the timeline of events. According to the FBI, Gonzalez arrived at the Florida rest stop around 1:20 a.m. after completing more than half of his route to Miami.
However, several hours later, the truck began moving again without explanation.
GPS records reportedly show:
- The truck started moving around 7:50 a.m.
- It briefly traveled south on Interstate 95
- The vehicle then exited the highway
- Shortly afterward, it turned north and headed back toward Georgia
As a result, investigators are trying to determine who was operating the truck during that time and why the route suddenly changed direction.
Missing Vehicles Add More Questions
Authorities also confirmed that several vehicles being transported on the trailer were missing when the truck was recovered in Georgia.
Investigators later found three of the missing vehicles in Florida. However, additional vehicles from the shipment have still not been located.
Because of this, the FBI is investigating multiple aspects of the case, including:
- The disappearance of the transported vehicles
- The unusual truck movements
- Possible criminal activity connected to the cargo
