Police are asking for help in identifying the person or persons who attacked and severely beat a trucker. Despite the attack occurring at a bar on a Saturday night, everyone – even the bartender that the trucker had been talking to – claimed that they didn’t see what happened.
On September 7th, 2019, Bruce Adams was driving through Glendale, Arizona with his co-pilot; his dog, Cash. He stopped at a local bar and left Cash to guard the truck while he went inside for a drink.
Adams ordered a drink from the bar and started facetiming with a friend. He later told police that he got only half-way through his drink when he got a “strange vibe” and asked the bartender to close out his tab. The last thing Adams remembers from that night is that the bartender started arguing with him about returning his card.
When he woke up in the hospital, Adams had three lacerations on his head and face. While police weren’t able to confirm these details, Adams says that he believes he was attacked from behind with a pool cue while he was speaking with the bartender.
When police arrived at the bar at approximately 10:30pm, two people were trying to administer first aid to Adams. According to the Glendale Police Department, “when officers arrived, no one in the bar claimed to know what had happened to Bruce, to include the bartender.”
More than two months have passed since the assault and the Glendale Police Department are offering a $1000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest. They are interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen Adams, Cash, or their truck before or during the incident. Adams’ truck was parked behind a grocery store on the NW corner of 59th Ave and Bethany Home Road.
Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the Glendale Police Department, or leave an anonymous tip with Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO.

Stopped for a drink????
Sean Lyman says
Thats what I was thinking
Tony Aleman says
Wtf it was the weekend he cant stop at a bar and have a drink? Why not ,he doesn’t deserve to almost get killed .You people are a bunch of losers you should be standing by your fellow trucker you ain’t no better than this man that just wanted to get out of his truck and have a cocktail.
Walter says
Seemed to many innocent people die from this driver action that why there DOT rules and regulations what if he strung killed one your family would it still be ok.
Karl says
Amen brother
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
As long as you are responsible for a commercial vehicle, on duty or off and not home, you come to the door with a cop after drinking, or climb out the sleeper, you’re DWI. Hell, you can’t walk down most streets after being in a bar and not get a ticket. I feel for the guy. Most likely running a bigger tab on his card, but smart move, do your drinking at home in a bar you know and not while on the job.
Roni says
I believe he had asked bartender to “close his tab”, never heard of a tab consisting of one drink. Too many drivers are taking advantage of DOT laws and after drinking or doing drugs drive on the roads and often kill innocent people including little children.
bruce says
Trust me, there is nothing unusual about a driver stopping for a drink. Most drives simply drink or smoke in the back of their cabs. When I was over the road I saw drivers doing things in their trucks you would not believe. I have walked past trucks at truck stops where the scent of pot was so strong you practically got a contact just from walking past the truck. I remember one incident in particular where the rest stop on I-81 southbound just as it mergers with I-78 in Pa was shut down because a driver was caught smoking meth. Why the need to shut down the entire rest area and bring in the hazardous waste crew was beyond me but thats what they did. I guess the intention was to send a message to other drivers whom I’m sure one or two did the same thing. Lets also not forget that the shortage of drivers added to the number of drivers that were failing drug test had a lot to do with DAC lower the penalty for dirty drug tests from ten years to three. Its ok to drink legally but your forbidden from legally smoking pot? Only in America folks.
James says
There is no driver shortage, per the department of labor
Google is your friend!
Jughead says
Another reason not to drink while on duty!!!!!
Michael Redding says
I’m pretty sure he wasn’t on duty numb nuts
Roni says
In the article he said he just stopped FOR A DRINK.
Roger Koch says
you’re driving a truck and you stop for a drink what the hell is that. not to say that he deserve to be beat up but I’ve always made it a rule that I never go to bars when I’m out on a trip.
Tony Aleman says
That’s your rule, you think you are better than this guy that got beat up?you should be backing your fellow trucker up.
Joe says
You mean back those same truckers up who sit on their phones and watch you struggle backing up between two trucks at a truck stop at 3 am?
Michael Redding says
Truck driver right?
Tlm says
Oh wow Joe. Since when do you feel its the other drivers responsibility to get you into a parking spot ? Maybe you should get more training or another type of job. If you depend on others you will never learn. Trucking isnt for everyone and evidently not for you
Helen says
Any old school driver will help a fellow driver in a tight spot
It’s the new “me” generation who can’t be bothered
Michael Redding says
Of course Tony his rules apply to everyone
Helen says
That’s what separates the professionals from the others!!
Roni says
The new breed of drivers have absolutely no consideration for fellow drivers. Driving schools are collecting government funds for each student, sending them out on the roads with very little training and then the worse…they get a big truck and began their unlearned destruction on the roads. I dread winter this year due to so many millennial drivers.
mousekiller says
There is so much missing here in the story. Then again the truck could have been Empty or he was heading home. Who really knows.? Doesn’t matter. This is just how things have been turning in our industry the last 15 years or so. The I don’t care attitude or they are living in total ignorance. People like this that ignore basic safety rules and common sense are giving all truck drivers a bad name. Then again someone took exception to him discussing the bill and his card. You never know how a drunk will react to any circumstance. Their business or not.Mob mentality.
Andrew Burns says
Didn’t mean he was going to get in his truck & drive . most truckers now days have know morals . It is OK to have a drink & go to sleep.
Andrew Burns says
Didn’t mean he was going to get in his truck & drive . most truckers now days have no Morals
Daniel says
The bartender seen something I would be suing the bar
Sara says
Yes sir I would sue the bartender and owner, His log will show if he is off duty. Most likely was he only drank part of his drink. And requested his tab closed. Bartender keeping card tab open while someone hits driver on head. How much money was on that card? That was so important for the bartender to want. Bartender has to return card and close tab upon request. Next question did they Rob the truck and trailer?
Rambo1 says
” Tuff neighborhood ! You just don’t go there by accident ! “
Joe trucker says
So what he stopped for a drink. Probably a burger and fries also. As long as he wasn’t going to drive for 8-10 hours no big deal.
But there is a lit missing to this story. Why was he arguing over card or tab? No one saw nothing, so their protecting a regular or well known.
Eugene says
And Yes > sue bar if bartender dont see nothing . is no any reson beat some one . Trucker ?/ if 36 of duty hi can dring 1 or 2 beer
But yes I dont stop at bar there is no frends for me with good culture
Andrew H says
It’s not uncommon for a trucker, especially an old timer, to have a beer before bed.
Plus it says he was halfway through his drink, so he didn’t even have one, before he got the jeebies and got whacked. So he wasn’t drunk and starting something, although confrontation may have not helped matters any.
Odds are, the locals at that bar didn’t appreciate an outsider dropping in, probably tried mugging him by saying his card was declined, and someone else took matters into their own hands.
Eugene says
Yes . possible bed frend in bar and bartender etc etc I know this trick
Dan The Driver says
I’ve done it. Although I quit doing it years ago. I was lucky nothing bad happened because it could have. When you are out of your element, anything can happen. I hope this gives pause to anyone thinking that they can just go anywhere and people will befriend them. I wish Mr Adams a speedy recovery & justice.
Daehtraf says
He left his dog locked up in the truck in an alley,,,, snowflakes hate that stuff.
Aw says
Doesn’t add up. Probably running his mouth and forgot he was in public not hiding behind the microphone
pete says
that is freakin funny!!!!!
Joseph E Williams says
I hope you recover quickly brother and forgive and try to forget.
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Agreed
Steve Duggan says
Sounds like he shot his mouth off to the wrong crowd.
Cj says
Ill bet it was just a matter of him not being a local!
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Not being local and showing his money
Clark blasdel says
A whole lot of opinions on here and not enough details to go on to be judge or jury!
Mark Gillespie says
I thought going for a drink with the truck was illegal???
Cj says
By federal law 24 hours from last drink and under.001 bac
Cj says
Ps that gose for any mind altering drug no in your system and min 24hr from use
pete says
only if you bring the truck into the bar with you.
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Enough details, be a professional and stop visiting a bar unless off weekend at a well known truck stop where you can sleep it off with DOT knocking on the door
Clark blasdel says
Not if your relieved of duty long enough to have it out of your system before getting behind the wheel and driving or any type of on duty not driving activities.
Reckoner says
That scar looks like he got smacked in the face. Not from behind.
Lots of holes in this story a usual.
Malcolm Newcomb says
Those stitches are on top of his head, not on his face.
Gary says
I know this bat has cameras so the bartender needs to fork over the goods. Now suppose that driver had been strapped. Then, people would be mad because he shot him or them.
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Won’t if he’s involved since he had a front row seat
Ken says
I bet the bartender was in on it or he is a real pussy. He saw something.
Cj says
A few local bars around here have some crooks and they will rob you and pretend they saw nothing don’t goto bars in the ghetto and or shady places ps always get your detailed receipt some will charge you for a friend (sitting next to you because they talked to you) of the bartender on cam and claim you bought them one
pete says
if he wants that nasty cut to heel guick, let ole cash give it a lick!!!!!!!
Steve Hughart says
Sue the bartender and the bar somebody will start singing like a canary then..
Rick says
Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but responsible drivers who are out there to make money don’t go to bars when they are on the road. Good things usually don’t happen in bars.
Tlm says
Rick , stick in the mud. Some drivers have been doing this job probably a lot longer than you have been alive. After so long throwing freight ( unless you’re one of the more feminine who only does drop and hook ) you feel the pain. Sadly nothing is legal to take as a trucker to help you sleep with that pain. One drink is nothing if you’re out of hours. Fmsca thinks you’re all robots while they never auffer from anything
Alex c says
Guy is prob a gay bolero, or ups,fag
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Well said. Need better decision and better responsibility in this industry and maybe we wouldn’t make ourselves better targets. Days of a driver being respected are about gone because of the mistakes of too many one’s actions that reflect on all of us
David says
Clark is right on this . And by the way, Tim , what happened to common courtesy, I would be appreciative of an extra set of eyes on a dark rainy night trying to back in. I know you’ve been in places that you couldn’t whip a cat without getting hair in your mouth.
Drifter says
Sounds like he was targeted. That bartender is definitely in on the scam. As for him stopping for a drink, you folks freaking out about it should calm down and go screw yerselfs. No law says he can’t have a drink, go to his truck and go to bed. I’d think you should be more upset for him getting damned near killed than getting a drink. WTF is wrong with you people? He should just drive his rig through the damned building! Screw em!
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Come around to my state and they will prove you wrong
Steel Horse and Wooden Mem says
Funny, how no one cares what happened to his pet or truck, just a lot of griping about whether a truck driver can drive to a bar. Sad
Helen says
All us drivers with dogs will tell you that dog was more than happy to wait for his human in the comfort of his road home😁
Windybag says
Ok folks let’s keep it simple, once you’ve started your 70 hour clock you’re bound to DOT regulations until you log off again for HOMETIME stopped AT HOME. NO driver should be consuming alcohol or drugs at any time during your 70 hour clock. I don’t know what happened in the bar any more than anyone else does so my take is if he didn’t think the regulations apply to him then he got himself into his own drama. I’ve been driving since 2013 after retiring from 30 years in manufacturing and do my drinking AT HOME because I understand the reality that I’m not in complete control of myself when I do. Anyone looking for excuses to break DOT regulations needs to find a more suitable job that doesn’t require responsibility for the general public.
Windybag says
Since I’ve seen the excuse that it’s for medicinal purposes, there are plenty of over the counter meds for pain and for anything else then you need to learn to have some fortitude. People are too sensitive these days. After a lifetime of hurt and disappointment I personally know it doesn’t help to dwell on things so I busy my mind on business and profit because no one is going to take care of me when I’m 70-80 years old.
