A former driver recruiter has been indicted by a Federal grand jury on five counts of wire fraud. The recruiter is accused of stealing over $120,000 from two different companies that she worked for.
Michelle Serth-Stein was hired by Midwest Systems as a driver recruiter in October of 2017. While employed there, she allegedly submitted fraudulent invoices directing money to her personal bank account. She is also accused of submitting fake expense reports, getting reimbursed for recruiting expenses she never incurred.
According to the indictment, Serth-Stein used the money for shopping and to pay off personal loans.
Midwest Systems eventually fired her in January of 2019. But she was hired again right away by AA Express. Her new position would be as a recruiter and overseeing driver safety. Before long, prosecutors say that she was again directing funds into her personal bank account.
According to the indictment, Serth-Stein deposited at least one check made out to the business into her own account. She even allegedly made Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers from the company’s bank account to her own.
By the time she was fired from AA Express in August, Serth-Stein had allegedly stolen a combined $120,804.57 from both companies.
Now facing five counts of wire fraud, each count carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Shes a criminal for sure but 100 years compared to what the owners are doing? Isnt the clown from Arrow out already? We dont have a justice system, merely a legal system, there is no justice. Must be the ACH transfers are federal. Still childs play.
J Ossowski says
If any of the banks involved are insured by the FDIC (and which ain’t today?), it becomes federal.

These all white collar crimes Driver Recruiters do on the expense on Driver which Not Paid what they’re deserved.
StonedDude says
This kind of crime is very common….. I’ve worked for two companies that people working there wrote checks to themselves, 6 figures were stolen before they were caught. One the only reason that she was caught was she did not balance the missing money out of the checkbook. They were both smaller companies run by the owner that did not have good guards in place. It usually starts the same way, someone “borrows” a little money, of course they can’t pay it back, then sees how easy it was, and nobody noticed, so they take more and more.
Justin says
She should’ve just got a business license and made a contribution to the right campaign fund. Maybe practiced the art of shrugging shoulders like a real pro. Pretty sure you can rob the last penny from a little old crippled church lady and still get a pat-on-the-back with your big annual performance bonus. Shoot…if you think an old-fashioned thief in a ski mask is scary, wait til you deal with a lawyer or politician. Talk about deserving 20 to life in the federal pen!
MrYowler says
Yeah. A hundred years for stealing from the carrier. But steal from drivers or customers, and it’s a slap on the hand, a small fine, and pay back 2% of what you stole…
Her crime was stealing from the wrong victims.
David says
That’s why I am out of driving trucks I’m glad I’m retired I mean we work so hard and staying out for weeks and weeks and not really making the money that we deserve but these people that work for companies like she was doing overseeing the drivers i’m delegating load They are the one that making the money and like I said we work so hard being out of the family and getting cheater
Joe says
Curious why this site moderates harmless non-offensive posts? If light jokes or ribbing cant be tolerated, maybe the moderators should get off a trucking board and find a safe space to inhabit. No better than Fakebook, Twatter and the rest.
Mark says
Hmm, a crooked lying recruiter…
Imagine that?
R.J. says
Imagine…. In an industry known for its honesty and truthfulness.
Jake says
Too much penalty for the crime. I agree with punishment but that is excessive. She should give back what she took and spend a little time in prison.
Billy bob says
TRUCKING COMPANIES BEEN STEALING FROM DRIVERS FOR YEARS BUT NOBODY’S MAKING THEM ACCOUNTABLE THE INDUSTRY FULL OF LIARS AND THEIVES

Alex says
Looks like she’ll need to work for another company in order to wire that bail money lol
Mike says
she is a fugitive per the court’s docket. On the run? why else would she be listed as a fugitive? She deserves whatever she gets. https://www.moed.uscourts.gov/docket/
Russell A Carter says
poor trucking companies. lmao
Bonous says
How can a driver/recruiter have anything to do with company account? That don’t sound right. Now I can understand if she was an accountant. I don’t support what she’ve don’t but maybe those companies deserve it. Also she shouldn’t get 120 year behind bars nor should she be fined $120,000. I don’t think she has that money if she used the funds she stoled to payoff loans and bills. Now that’s just my 2 cents.
Shawn says
Because she’s a woman she’ll more than likely get off or only do probation for a few months. She must be related to Amber Guyger?
Edward B. Mauri says
Well, in her defense, she never lied to any driver when she recruited them…..
10 on 8 off was the best says
She’s a crook in a crooked industry. The work horse gets the scraps and the people at the desks eat like royalty.
Dano says
You can condemn her all you wish but when corporations, banks and politicians rob millions if not billions then it’s a slap on the hand, small fine and no one goes to jail. Who are the real crooks in our society?
Kevin Rawle says
There are so many criminals working in the trucking industry, and it is time for the Government to clamp down and get rid of them.
