Rep. Bill Shuster announced on Tuesday that he will not be seeking re-election. In his statement, the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee claimed that he made the decision in order to focus “100%” on a “much needed infrastructure bill to rebuild America.”
Regardless of whether Shuster was planning on staying in Congress or not, this would be his last year as chairman of the Transportation subcommittee. This was his last term of a three-term limit imposed by House GOP members for all chairmen of congressional subcommittees.
Bill Shuster has represented Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District since he took over from his father, Bud Shuster, in a special election in 2001. The elder Shuster had held the seat since 1973 and had also been the chair of the Transportation subcommittee.
In this last year that a Shuster will represent the 9th district, Bill Shuster says he will focus on President Trump’s much-touted infrastructure plan. But with midterm elections looming in November, one year doesn’t seem like much time. Especially given how little is known about the promised $1 trillion infrastructure plan.
With the focus on healthcare and tax reform, not much has come up about infrastructure recently. In the past there has been bipartisan agreement that something needs to be done about the country’s aging infrastructure, but where the money for that will come from is anyone’s guess.

It appears the Shuster family has been around America’s transportation system for decades. Not a very positive legacy left behind,if you ask me. Bud was right in the middle of the Carter administration’s deregulation catastrophe, I see. Well, it all went downhill from there,to make a long story short.
Appoint a trucker to this position. Why not?

So now “deregulation” is Carter, not Reagan? Huh!
Jon says
There are a few corporate and professional types who turned to trucking when the job opportunities went South.
MrYowler says
Because in order for that to happen, we would have to break with tradition and elect a trucker to office, instead of yet another lawyer. And then he would have to get appointed to, and serve on, the Transportation committee, long enough to become it’s chair.
Do you think that there is any real chance of any of that, happening?
We are governed by representatives who do not represent us. That really should be abundantly apparent, by now.

You would think so right? But for some reason, people are still shocked that this administration isn’t what they signed up for. Dont fall for the banna in the tail pipe….the okee doke…the ol’slap’n tickle! Oh wait, i like the ol’slap’n tickle but watch out for the 3 card montey and please dont pull his finger!
