Recently got my CDL and started driving local as a company driver... everything is going as expected except when my insurance renewed. My rates before CDL were actually pretty reasonable but It went up significantly ($300 year) and my record is clean, as in spotless.
I use a fairly reputable company in WA state - Amica - have multiple vehicles and a boat insured... what the hell? Is it time to shop for a new policy? I've been with them for years! I don't get it... did this happen to anyone else?
Didn't see this coming...

It has been my experience with insurance that the rates constantly go up over a long period of time. 15 years ago I had two vehicles, full coverage on a home etc for less than 100 flat each month among other things.
Today I can barely get liability for one vehicle at almost 60 and if I migrate away from the current insurance who is going on 7 of magic 9 years (At 9th year certain benefits kick in which are quite valuable) it becomes 160 a month for one vehicle.
The other part of the changes (Ive been with the same agent for almost 24 years now) is that if you are making payments on a vehicle not fully paid for and title solely in your name. Then Full coverage is required with all the costs therin.
However insurance cost rises each month. Slowly. A dollar here two there and so on but upwards they go.
You might want to ask very hard questions as how is your company doing this Amica?TheSnowman Thanks this. -

My CDL never ever affected my personal auto insurance. Perhaps your location or your credit rating is the reason for the spike. Some auto insurance companies will give you a higher rate for a dip in your credit rating than they will give for an at-fault driving accident. I'm suspecting some change in WA laws, or background has changed since last renewal. That change doesn't have to be driving related. I believe Amica is very selective so it could be something small in your background or your location has changed.snowlauncher, TheSnowman and x1Heavy Thank this. -
They have multiple vehicle/ family members discounts.
My 17' SS Camaro, full coverage with free glass replacement is $1200 year.
97 F350 basic coverage is $350 year.
And I'm in one of the worst zip codes there is for insurance.TheSnowman and x1Heavy Thank this. -

The one thing they started doing differently is they went from an annual policy to a 6 month... the only claim I've had in years was a windshield...
