The driver is finally on his way to be at orientation in the morning. Truck runs good now. 11.9 mpg bob tailing from Houston to Ozark, AR. The only thing left is an alignment and adding the oil bypass system. I’ll do the bypass when he comes in for time off. He’ll do the alignment when he’s out if orientation in the afternoon between Monday and Wednesday.
I spent 10 hours at a Loves last night to put new 16 ply steers on the 2 trucks, swap the wheels and tires, drives, between the two, and put the used steers on the tag axle. I was ready to murder someone. I had been up well over 24 hours by that point. I told the drivers to go home and I’d call them in the morning. I wasn’t planning on 10 hours. I didn’t think it was that complicated, but to them it was. It was like a version of that, who’s on first base skit by Abbot and Costello. That was the last big thing that needed to happen. The tires on the 6x4 truck drives would be much better on the 6x2 and vice versa. I now have 6 super singles in my apartment and 4 of the remaining duals. It looks like a tire storage trailer in here.

Maybe it will be different this time? -
So far it’s working out. Some minor hiccups getting the Freightliner to Arkansas. I try to do as much maintenance as possible before I even pick up a truck, or at least, before I put it on the road. I didn’t do that in the past. I’ve learned not to trust a used truck, no matter the miles or how rosy it’s backstory may be.
I’m pretty impressed with this 2016 Freightliner. I’m not a huge fan of the interior but the guy that’s driving it loves Freightliners. The best thing I did on this one was doing the Diesel Force cleaning. I think that will save me a lot of headache. I added a used TriPac Evolution on it as well, with only 5k hours. It has 232,600 miles on the truck. The 2015 Volvo has worked out pretty well, after some maintenance hiccups, so maybe this one will too. That 2015 Volvo only has 250k on it.Tug Toy, Midwest Trucker, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -

Congrats man! I know it is tough for O/O's right now with the insurance rates rising which is leading to a lot of small companies to go out of business. That is nothing to take lightly. That being said, for those that can tough out the insurance payments and stay on the road in 2020, the load values are going to start going up. Best of luck!

That Freightliner has started off strong. It seems the initial problems are all taken care of. His first load was 77k from Amarillo to Nashville and it’s holding at 8.1 right now. He’s heading back to AR tomorrow for a few days off and I’ll be getting the oil bypass on. That’s the only thing left to do. I have the same one on my truck and the Volvo. Amsoil heavy duty bypass system.
This Freightliner is the Cummins Eaton Advantage powertrain.Miles2Go Thanks this. -
This is the Diesel Force. They have a shop locator on their site. I don’t know why more places don’t have this yet. During an actual service they don’t tear things down, that’s just for demonstration here.
