This empty shelves stuff sounds good to me, anybody else seeing the glass half full? I’m gonna start wearing masks and gloves while driving to spike up more loads for Merica. Stock up America.

In an earlier post, I made a comment about listening more to the real experts. Here is another one. Abdu Sharkaway works for the University Health Network which is part of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Neither has anything to do with the US Government or the Media. I will LINK to the Facebook comment but will place it behind a spoiler in here because it is long.

I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even
    imagine?

I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession.

But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested.

Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous.

I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing.

Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts.
Our children will thank us for it.

I made a quick stop at the Pilot in Nitro, WV last night, and a driver was yelling at the Arby's staff to change their gloves and wash their hands several times. He kept saying, "there's too much goin' on right now." Meanwhile, he had his hands resting on the hand rail/line bar thingy, then touched his phone and his face.

So I'm almost out of hand sanitizer and noticed all the truck stops have been sold out all week. I guess people finally decided to stop being slobs. /cool story bro

I haven't checked all the posts on this thread...
But doesn't this effect us because Chinese business shut down= less freight moving around???
Not to mention if all of these businesses shutting down and not producing... won't that come to bite us eventually?
Has anyone noticed a reduction in loads yet?

It already had. My orders pending summer delivery has been essentially vaporized. The chinese and other factories for those orders are not working now. They will NOT produce or deliver to me in time for summer deadline. If at all.

USA is dusting off old wartime defense laws requiring production of certain items here in the USA now at any price. The items WILL be produced.

Pharmacy tells me antibiotics and other medicines strictly made and sourced in China has vaporized in supplly. In a few months or less no one will have that stuff at any price such as blood thinners etc in the USA. I am stockpiling out of existing medicines prescribed to me at very small doses each month so I can ride out any outages this year. IF any. So if Doc prescribed 120 of something, I use 30 and stick the rest into the safe against a unknown supply future. Doc can try to prescribe something else but there is no point. Im already there at home providing for that future. Just in case.

I worry about the Internet. The National Grid at the Level3 and other very top level providers of internet core. If those start getting disrupted, loaded down or whatever then frankly we go back to playing board games here at the house. No internet or technology needed or available. There are two generations of people who don't know how to function in such a world.

Weapons and ammuntion etc have been stable a very long time in years. It wont be the first emergency we faced at the state level or higher. Those who don't have anything will storm the ammunition and guns sales soon enough. I don't need to.

In a few hours eastern markets will open to oil at about 27.00 and falling due to Saudi Arabia slashing pricing down to 10.00 a barrel for light arabic crude sweet to anyone on the world capable of loading a ship there soon. The rest of the nations will be unable to do oil business at 50, 40 and 30 or whatever prices because they will be too expensive.

American rig count will plummet as there is no profit to take oil out of the ground at less than 20.00 a barrel or even 10.00 barrel spot. Fire em all.

What will happen then? I don't know. Futures have limited down in the night already. Meaning they have lost so much value that when the markets open in NYC at 930 eastern there is a possibility they will LIMIT down and close for 3 hours very fast. The media will scream doomsday further whipping the people into a lather. I choose to ignore it.

Two companies have admitted that they finally ran out of product. Hand sanitizer and one other item. It will be a while before they make up more batches to ship. Should not take too long while trucks slowly surround the shipping dept and sit for potentially days to load.

    Should I go on?

Was at Wally World(Walmart) this morning picking up some bananas and saw an idiot making a run on bottled water. Had a cart full of the gallon jugs. SMH

While the virus is no joke. No need to make runs on water and TP.

    I would not yet.

DOW limited to it's circuit breaker this morning for 15 minutes closed after it fell vertially 2000+ points.

Post circuit breaker its continuing to fall. There is a second 15 minute closure waiting if it falls far enough this morning. If it falls again after that they close for the day if the third breaker is hit before a certain time.

All three major markets have limited down as well and continue to fall. Its not the time to buy. We will have to go back to about around 1986 or even back to maybe before 1930 in percentage before it will find a bottom. Uncle Sam is trying to hold it from running away for appearances at the Fed but they are choking on it once the interest kicks in and other troubles.

The one movie I am reminded of today is "The Hudsucker Proxy" a old junket where a mailroom clerk is drafted by the board into being a pawn.
