Your phone is about to get really busy with bottom feeders looking to make a buck off of you. There is no shortage of brokers willing to deal with you. The real problem is finding one that will pay a fair rate. Figure out your costs and know ahead of time what it takes to make a profit. And don't haul cheap ! Let that crap sit on the dock.

If you can, get the authority secured for 6 months+ before jumping in. Make sure you keep your variable and fixed costs separate and defined as best you can. Collect broker references. Update brokers by phone or text of ETA for arrival, checked in, checked out, ETA to delivery, checked in, checked out. That'll get you on first call lists.

Use a separate phone number such as Google Voice for your authority. I think I received 300 plus calls in the first month.
Some brokers wont use you until 6 months in but others will.

My brokerage uses new authorities. No, I won't tell you who I am. Forum rules state we can't conduct business through these forums.

That said, these folks aren't wrong either. Find those of us brokers out there that will treat you right. Best of luck to you.

I made my living the first year and especially the first 6 mos. almost solely off TQL and CH Robinson. There was a time back in 2018 when even they paid well and those two will surely work with new authorities.

Here are the first few I wrote down on my broker list, meaning they were the first I signed up with:

    TQL
    Coyote
    CHR
    Scott Logistics (GA)
    Armstrong Logistics
    BNSF Logistics
    Suntek/TTS
    Hub Group

I second getting a Google Voice number for your authority. You'll get the calls regardless but you can still have a life if the masses don't have your personal cell number.
