The 1st warning sign of a bad co; uses DAC or USIS type services. 2nd, has a Q-com or simalar device on trk,3rd has small fuel tanks on trks, 4th has driver managers, fleet managers,or driver coordinators instead of dispatchers. Just keep filling out apps and tell the recruiter you don,t have any respect for companies that use dac services

If you are going to quit at any time and your company won't route you to their nearest terminal and you drop that truck at a manned terminal without their consent then yes it is truck abandonment.

Most of these trucks are equipt with QCs (Qual Coms). The best thing to do is about 2-3 days before your self termination date start hounding dispatch were they would like for you to park the truck. Once they tell you this on the QC it is locked in a hard drive for 10 yrs. Be suire to ad that your self termination date is 2-3 days away and you want to know where they want you to take the truck so you can clean your stuff out of it and park it. Let them make that decision not you. Once your stuff is out of the truck be sure to clean the inside of it and take pics of the inside and the outside of your truck for your protection. Its called CYA. Best thing to do is take pics with your cell fone and send to your email from your fone ASAP. That way they can not charge you for a truck cleaning or any damages done from the time they tell you to park it untill they pick it up. Once they tell you where to park it and you send in a message that you are cleaned out of it and they send in their OK. It is their baby.

Many years ago I worked for Burlington Carriers out of Albany, GA - my last TL freight job. Roughly every third trip from a company terminal I carried another driver along tp pick up an abandonded rig. When I decided to quit they did route me back to my home terminal - this was nearly 20 years ago.

Regarding DAC records, my record still shows a contractor I 'worked for' for all of ten days and never collected a paycheck. He renewed my Medical Card and paid for the drug screen. The solitary truck available for me to drive had been sitting for years; the mechanic had the worst time trying to get it running and electrical systems working. After a week of getting jerked around, we parted ways. I did get free lunches on a couple of occassions as I recall. This fellow was a contractor for BTT out of a Florida terminal. A likeable guy but promised more than he could deliver.

Ambivalence, i may be a rookie in your eyes, however, what you said below is THE REAL TRUTH about trucking to an extent, about being promised the world, but getting the shaft in the end. I may have 4 years experience behind the wheel, i have heard this song and dance routine more than once.

at trans-am people would abandon their trucks all the time. one of the functions of trainees in their final week with their trainer is to go and rescue one of trans -ams trucks. my kw from trans. was a rescue job. one thing about trana=am was , all you had to do was put on the qualcom that you wanted to be routed back to the yard to turn in your truck, and they would do it. but you would be bringing in a t-swap load, they wouldnt just dead head you. i guess they got tired of finding trucks on dirt roads, and in empty parking lots , at the pawn shop, (kidding)

Did u make them send it over the qualcomm? If not you deserve what u got. If u did, u have a legal federal document that u can use the sue their collective butts off for fraud, theft, defamation of character, damages due to lost potential wages, etc.

At what point does their refusal to release you from their truck become kidnapping/ false imprisonment? If you give them 14 days, and on day 15 you're still nowhere close to home that's being held against your will. Talk to an attorney and the US marshal's office.

US Marshalls? They have NOTHING to do with any of anything in what you do as a trucker! No! You will NEVER haul money or printing plates or nuclear explosives or cruise missiles!

Now,If you are being kidnapped then you call the FBI! The US Marshal's will help the FBI IF ASKED, but they have a whole different job than the FBI or Homeland Security, police, State Patrol or CIA! If you are an escaped FEDERAL prisoner, then look out, as the US Marshalls will be the main ones looking for you!

Now, if you've heard the "tales" where you are on a dock someplace or maybe in the scale house and the "driver" in question has a problem where the DOT or scale master told the guy to break the seal and Mr Driver calls the US Marshall's and they came out and cleaned house of all those pesky DOT cops or mean old dock foremen, I hope you got a good laugh out of it! It WAS a truckers story!

The #1 MAIN job of the US Marshall's is to protect the US Court System, #2 is to protect judges and witnesses #3 is to do what a judge tells them to do as in go catch federal criminals and after all that, they are in charge the impounded vehicles in the US and govern how the cash is distributed down to the law enforcement agencies. They also are in charge of believe it or not prisoner shipments to prisons and the leasing to O/O's who operate buses to haul federal prisoners around to various prisons just like so much freight! I know you've seen the buses with the bars on the windows?

They also handle the shipments of the US Treasury and there is also a US Mashalls truck group for hauling "other sensitive" loads! The US Marshals service also will provide backup in case of "civil unrest" such as big strikes, terror attacks (like 911) and disasters.

But as for calling a US Marshall to help you, do not hold your breath waiting if you didn't hear the officer ROFLHAO before he asks you if you believe everything you hear on the CB!

It's obvious, you've never gotten a speeding ticket on the Natchez Trace in MS :biggrin_2559: and failed to pay it.

You get no points on your license. But you will get paid a visit from US Marshalls. And you will get a free ride to the nearest detention facility (50 miles away from here), at which point you will be allowed to pay the ticket and provide your own transportation back home.

PS You will NOT be allowed to pay the ticket prior to transport...regardless of how much money you have in your pocket. And they really don't give a #### if you ARE the mayor. The ride is mandatory. :biggrin_25523:

ROFL!! Good one! Ok, I've never been on the Trace in a truck (Not Allowed) but ridden it on a bike years ago and I don't remember any US Marshalls. I had a Game Warden stop next to me when I was checking out a herd of turkeys in a field! Thought I was hunting from the road! ROFL! I was in the national park at the time. That's why you would possibly get a ride with the Marshalls, is the national park is Federal IMHO but it's been awhile since I talked to the PR lady in DC about the Marshalls! It was driving me crazy what their job was! That was back in 97 and did I leardn a lot! Even got a hat patch From them.
