Can I use any antenna with my CB radio?

What kind of truck do you have?

Most antennas will work,but they might need adjusting.Go with some aftermarket co axle cable,the stuff in the trucks are junk.

What I do use is a Uniden PC76xl and that old radio has a function in which you could match whatever antenna you had on to it. If it "Knew" how big or how small of a antenna it was attached to, the quality of the conversation is adequate.

My very first CB radio bought the afternoon I graduated Trucking School with a Class A was a basic cobra 19. Here is one example for sale on the bay. I never thought I would see one again.

However. I soon disposed of the radio when I was educated with much bigger and better radios out there by everyone. They ridiculed my tiny little toy radio because it was just too basic at that time. (Not a bad radio but it was really basic.) It mattered not what antenna you put on. I think I used a wilson mag mount in car and a couple of generic firesticks for the truck. The little three foot ones with the rig being a cabover and you could not get too high.

With a freightliner,most install on a bracket that connects to the mirror arm on the door.

When I had my old freightliner,I bought a bracket,ran cable from the bracket under the hood,through the firewall into the truck behind the dash.

Had a 5ft firestick,if you run off the arm I wouldn't run under 5ft.

I believe @craig_sez has a freightliner,could be wrong,but he's the guy that could really help you with this,if he sees it.

 

If your just going to install in the factory location,with out running wire,I'd just go with a couple 4ft fiberglass antennas,maybe something that comes pretuned like Francis.

When your ready for an aftermarket install you can change up than.

 

Second Finfn 1372's post. Those Francis are great antennas for your basic radio setup. I would try to get a 5' if you can. The taller the better, but then you don't want it too tall or you might knock it off on tree limbs

 

If your going stock,id stay fiberglass,but with ever you choose if its not pre tunned you're antenna 9 times out of 10 will need adjusting.

I wouldnt spend alot on a antenna if you're gonna stay stock right now,the pre ran cable in these trucks are junk.
