Probably a UAW job putting gas in them. Can't expect too much effort for a six figure job.

this is a gm warranty claim. do not pay! I have had several! mostly on terrains and blazers. I know other drivers with this on the pick ups

Back in the 1996-1997 range, Ford bedliners were a problem if you backed one on the headrack. Riding down 321 in South Carolina one night I hear a "whoooosh". Didn't think anything of it. Working night slip seat we just dropped the cars and threw the keys in the night drop box at the dealer. Next day at dispatch I get called into the office to discuss the damage I had on the load last night. Scrapes and a dent on the rear drivers side rear pillar on the truck I had on the headrack that I dropped in Savannah. Soon after , coming north on 321 I noticed there was a pickup bedliner about 50 feet up wedged in a tree. It was there for years.

We were having issues with just the cover coming off.. the rest of the assembly would still be closed and latched.. the covers would just be MIA all backed on the #1 all from the same railyard in GA. Dealers said that its a GM problem not transport damage

Most of the cars are not designed to go 70 MPH in reverse.
I"m not sure how the gas door is assembled on GM but most likely the cover snaps in place sliding it from front to back that is why fly's off during being transported in reverse. I would just use some blue painter tape and put little on the back of gas door.
I do this on Jeeps Compasses because i lost 2 spoilers.

I've lost 1. As a Company maybe 15. I think the one i had was already damaged. It was on the back bottom spot and the spoiler still came off
