Ext. Hood vs short hood fenders

I thought all Pete conventional front fenders were the same.

 

Doesn't an "assigned" truck pretty much guarantee no one else will drive it?

 

It's happened before. The guy is at home for a couple days. Driver b's truck is in the shop, but he has to deliver his load locally. "Here, take @Dave1837 's truck. He won't be needing it until Monday."

 

To answer your question, I believe that the fender is the same going back to 1954 introduction of the 351.

 

Funny story, well, it was to us. A local trucking co. who's boss was retired, but kept his "personal" 379 large car for special occasions. They hired some new guy, boss comes in at 8am, no Peterbilt. Cardinal sin. Turns out, the new guy saw the Pete sitting there, and took it. Needless to say, the guy was fired on the spot when he returned. It was short, glorious day for that guy.

 

I remember as a kid my dad had to deliver some watermelons that somebody brought from out of town. There was a K100 that needed 1 axle replaced, but they couldn't get an axle in time. The shop tried welding the splines on, but that didn't even last to get out of the yard. So my dad locked up the axles, and we took the 120 mile drive from Fontana to LA and back the next day while they were waiting for a new axle. I was probably 9 or 10.

 

Sounds like "I got drunk last night and somebody had #### in my pants."
