It's a weird time. I miss just sitting in a sports bar chugging lots of beer while watching my favorite teams lose on the big screen.
It's just not the same having to order wings to carry out and go home and eat cold wings. I can totally see why many of my favorite places will probably not survive the next few weeks. I am sure it's the same with the food distributors. I can't see how they can keep their lights on while powering half empty warehouses while half their fleet is sitting grounded and their respective drivers laid off.
I'd never thought I would live long enough to see it come down to this, but here we are.

Anyone’s company start laying off? Heard from a driver at one of our terminals that they’re doing furloughs.

Nothing like starting off the week with having to unload the whole truck and reload it the right way first thing on a Monday morning.
Some idiot decided what should have been my first stop should be last, which means when it’s time to start pickups I have to backtrack in the wrong direction, and a stupider idiot decided that the two deliveries routed just before the last one should be the last two skids to be loaded.
And to add insult in injury, the idiot that loaded that mess actually had the nerve to try and speak to me. I said “don’t you even come near me mother ####er”. I was hot.dwells40, Gearjammin' Penguin, McUzi and 4 others Thank this. -
Did a lot of sitting and waiting yesterday. Waiting for pickups to be called in, in my area. Waiting for the late one to be ready. Good times. Got caught up on shows though.

Well, I gotta count the wins and positives where I can with everything going on. So pointing out the blatant ironies is just that cherry on top of this crap sandwich. Allow me to explain.
In the past, the most dreaded customers we've had are Sysco, US Foods, and FSA. We would have to deliver them 6-10 pallets and they would make use break them down, sort and segregate them. Sometimes turning each pallet into 10 separate ones. It's an asinine process that could take hours. Granted, you could ask them to do it for a nominal $200 or whatever the charge in "lumper fees".
Well, how the tables have turned. Now not only will none of them allow you on their precious docks, but they also insist on taking their freight and sorting it for you. To me, this sounds like something they should do to begin with
Hopefully with all of this, this portion will stay as the new normal. Doubtful but I can only hope. It was only last week where I was stuck dealing with this crap run to Sysco and I was coughing up a lung. It's not cause I am down with the sickness but because the pollen in the Spring air is not compatible with my lungs. I managed to scare half the dock away from me.
I had to ask the receiving manager a simple question. I've been on your dock for almost two hours now. Not only did I touch at least 700 different surfaces, but I coughed on at least 1/4 of them. If I was sick, why would you want me around on your dock so long? Guessing they finally realized that the few hundred bucks they are trying to extort out of us isn't worth them getting sick.Mike2633, misterG, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this. -
